I know I am a broken record but a HUGE MISS by our Government Officials not to send an emergency mobile text message alert out at 3AM to announce the storm to Category 4 and give people a window to still evacuate that went to bed thinking it was a Category 2.

Broken Record but if some estranged father would have taken their teenage daughter across state lines we would have had three Amber Alert texts at 4am about the car color and license plate number.

So you are just going to dump all the blame for your bad decisions on not getting an alert at 3AM? This storm has been discussed ad nauseum for the past 3 days and was always coming in around this area as a CAT 3 or 4.

Dry air would be great, and usually the shallower water usually helps too.
Standing by for that I guess…

There is plenty of blame for government officials, but this 3am text thing you’re harping on is misplaced.

Lets start with the fact we started the week with 3 pumps offline, Lakeview has zero pump capacity for the storm.

Then end it right around where it was stated that its just "too late" to start contraflow.

Not receiving a text from the gov literally doesn't even make the list compared to actual failings.

Good gosh a 'Hurricane Preparedness' graphic just flashed across the screen and number one on the list was "Get the Covid vaccine".

Have they no shame?

Unfortunately, NO. I stayed up all night (anxiety) and watched the interstate traffic cameras.

The people who get paid to do this have been saying it’s going to be a 4 for 2-1/2 days. I wish you well, but don’t act like you weren’t warned

The point is they send emergency texts at 3 am about hurricane watches 3 nights before the storm hits but they can't be bothered to send one when it's a true urgent emergency.

Not defending blue check marks, but a recon plane did record this with 161mph sustained at surface. However I think NOAA decided against reporting it as official wind.

FWIW, one of the recon planes (NOAA3 Mission #2) just reported 170mph with all parameters nominal... meaning considered accurate. It's CAT 5 and will probably be reported as such shortly.

ETA for source: LINK
^scroll to line starting with 130900, third to last column is wind speed at surface in knots. Last column is accuracy... double 0's means all parameters accurate.

Have to see wait and see what the NHC goes with. As a storm moves closer to the coast and the water gets shallower, it can cause issues with the way these readings are generated.

How about a little personal responsibility?

This storm is going to hit basically exactly where they’ve said with the same category that they’ve said for the past 3 days.

If you stayed behind, a damn text at 3am wasn’t going to convince your hardheaded arse to leave.

A 15-20 mile jog makes a world of difference with this one. It also wasn't intensifying on schedule.

They woke everyone up in the middle of the night last year for a storm that was 3-4 days out. That made less sense than telling people Ida didn't fizzle after all.

Perfectly reasonable to think they should send out an emergency alert when a storm hits cat 4 even if it was expected. Some people just think saying “frick the government” makes them Paul Revere or something.

Took the legs off mine, then anchored it to the ground with straps and put the tongue of my boat on it. Let’s see if that holds.
