If ida is at 150 mph then that’s surface level. They don’t rate these at what the wind is 1000 ft up

#Ida is the furthest north hurricane on record in the Atlantic to deepen 50mb in 24 hours or less. LINK
It's not in the Atlantic and Michael had more rapid intensification, more quickly just a few years ago in the Gulf

s she wobbling west north west now?
Over the last like 20 minutes, yes.
She is stair stepping..
sometimes a little more north..
then a little more west..
but the path is basically NW
This will matter on landfall, but otherwise the path hasn’t changed much. I believe that this will continue until she starts getting pulled more N.. and then eventually NE

Some blue check mark on Twitter posted that hurricane hunters measured 161 MPH sustained winds and a pressure of 928mb. That was 48 minutes ago, however.
Not defending blue check marks, but a recon plane did record this with 161mph sustained at surface. However I think NOAA decided against reporting it as official wind.
FWIW, one of the recon planes (NOAA3 Mission #2) just reported 170mph with all parameters nominal... meaning considered accurate. It's CAT 5 and will probably be reported as such shortly.
ETA for source: LINK
^scroll to line starting with 130900, third to last column is wind speed at surface in knots. Last column is accuracy... double 0's means all parameters accurate.

know I am a broken record but a HUGE MISS by our Government Officials not to send an emergency mobile text message alert out at 3AM to announce the storm to Category 4 and give people a window to still evacuate that went to bed thinking it was a Category 2.
Broken Record but if some estranged father would have taken their teenage daughter across state lines we would have had three Amber Alert texts at 4am about the car color and license plate number.
How about a little personal responsibility?
This storm is going to hit basically exactly where they’ve said with the same category that they’ve said for the past 3 days.
If you stayed behind, a damn text at 3am wasn’t going to convince your hardheaded arse to leave.
There is plenty of blame for government officials, but this 3am text thing you’re harping on is misplaced.

Hopefully that is dry air on that radar..

It is the Atlantic basin and more north than Michael was. Next time you wanna dunk on something make sure you're tall enough.
It's a pretty sad thing to have little brother syndrome over.

The Atlantic includes the Gulf in this instance, and it is farther North than Michael.

It’s in the Atlantic basin and the qualifier was the northern nature of it.

Weather channel says 90+ winds for NOLA. 75+ for BR.

How is it more north than Michael?

Unfortunately, NO. I stayed up all night (anxiety) and watched the interstate traffic cameras.

The point is they send emergency texts at 3 am about hurricane watches 3 nights before the storm hits but they can't be bothered to send one when it's a true urgent emergency.
