Yeah it’s brutal. We all know that. But his point remains. Stop. Or end up like this Matt or like my brother Matt.

RIP.
I know of two people that got to hard drugs after pain pill addictions. One from knee surgery, the other a kid that just needed manic depressive meds that used drugs to numb.

People would be in shock how many different walks of life are addicts, do not judge.

If someone gets pain meds after surgery or injury get off of them ASAP.

The OP write up pulls at the heart strings at how he tried to help others.

RIP Matt. But thoughts and prayers to the family, it is torture living with a loved one that is an addict.

Don't even start down that path.

Man, if I - and several people I've known throughout the years - had simply never started. Everyone thinks it's no big deal at first, or "I won't get addicted, that's crazy!"

But they have no idea just how easy it is to get addicted to the point your life and livelihood depends on it, it can happen to anyone. Withdrawals are debilitating, miserable, and sometimes even deadly, and good people will get caught in a sort of trap where they can't afford to quit OR keep going.

That's what opioids do, they grab you by the balls and don't let go without some serious fortitude to quit. They've taken down much better men than me, and all walks of life. Luckily I joined suboxone treatment when it first became an option and I was able to dig myself out and stay out, but it was very expensive and time consuming and a lot don't have that option.

RIP Matt, there are so many that can empathize with your struggles and know everything you went through all too well. There are very few that recognized how hard it is to dig yourself out of opioid addiction alone and took the steps to help others do it like you did. That's an incredible achievement and should be celebrated.

That’s literally the response to that post. It was funny when it was posted in defiance to that dumb doctor then shock when it happened.

Fentanyl

If you ever needed a damn good reason to stop using drugs that’s it. shite is killing people all over, most probably don’t even know they’re taking it.

I see what he’s saying, but yeah, not to thread to be doing that.

I didn’t know Matt but have met some really genuine and absolutely great people in the rooms of AA and treatment. I’ve met a whole lot of good people since getting sober. People that will laugh with you, listen to you, answer your phone at any time, take an entire day out of their week to help you. Those kind of people are hard to find and sobriety has introduced me to dozens of fine people that at one point lost control of alcohol and/or drugs.

If you’re out there reading this and struggling with alcohol or drugs, there is help. You can find people that can truly understand and help. But you gotta give it up, one drink will kill me and others like me Addiction had destroyed so many lives. It’s absolutely terrible what we do to the people that love us most.

Truly sad. RIP Matt

Same here. Haven't had a good night's sleep in many years because of the anxiety associated with the last bad news call. It takes a toll.

Addiction is an absolutely horrible disease.

Seeing him on Sunday at the wake was tough.

Thoughts and prayers to the family and anyone who is going through something similar.

Gone too young and too soon.

When will the cycle stop. My oldest sister's daughter over dosed on pills. She was a RN in Australia.

Absolutely heartbreaking. I can’t even imagine. Bless his soul and family. Life can be truly awful sometimes.
