Seems lsu will basically be in the early 90s big 8 and not in the sec? Lsu will be paired with aTm, Texas, Oklahoma, mizzu, and ark while the other side has Florida, Georgia, tenn, bama, auburn, etc

Financially yes, but it could hurt in recruiting. LSU could offer kids out of Texas an opportunity to play in the SEC. Now that becomes harder if Sark turns things around. Just continue to win at a 10 game clip and you’re fine.

Pure speculation. And not very likely.

LSU will be with bama no matter what, or Nick will make sure of it

Louisiana produces an insane amount of talent and is only getting better if we continue to win at a high rate we will continue to recruit the kids in LA to stay home. Texas has to fight with AtM and Oklahoma now

Agree.

I don't like it. But, there's no stopping this train.

The SEC as we've known it is gone.

LSU will always be tougher, more physical & w/ better athletes than those 3 soft schools. It's just in the makeup of how they grow up.

It’s even more of a reason now to build a wall around Louisiana when it comes to recruiting. We probably won’t be able to recruit out of Texas as effectively as we have been, but as long as we can keep a hold on recruits in Louisiana, we should be fine. We’re very fortunate to have a state with so much talent, that we don’t need to go out of state so much.

A&M does too.

We still offer them a chance to play for a defense that they’ve seen good players on.

That's why we need to hope for the Pod system.

I think this new SWC or Big 8 could happen as well. Not initially but may after some time. Even the POD set up can be limiting to who LSU plays every year as there is no one team that is LSU’s main rival year in and year out that has to be included in POD.

We also have no traditional end of regular season rivalry game. With expansion adding Ark the SEC tried to make them a rival and failed. A&M may have materialized closer to one for us, but with Texas added it will not be as important to either anymore. Their game used to be Thanksgiving weekend I think, so timing of game may have to change. In a pod set up I am not sure how long SEC can keep Texas and A&M from playing every year without eventually putting them in same POD or adding permanent annual games outside of pod defeating a little of POD’s value of playing all other teams within shorter time frame. I also don’t think they would put us in a pod with both schools from Texas along with OU which also has to play Texas every year. LSU is viewed by SEC as interchangeable as far as rivals as must happen games or end of season games (don’t have an out of conference in-state rivalry they have to schedule around as well so it’s up to what team SEC schedules for us).

I will miss LSU playing Alabama, Florida, and Auburn annually more than I will enjoy seeing LSU playing Texas or Ou every year if they keep west & east or every 3 or 4 years with pods (or however the pods work out). For years I had hoped for a 9th game even if neutral sites added to not mess with having same number of home & away games or even 10 conference games just to play Georgia and TN more often.

I guess pod system may make Georgia & TN happen more often, but I wish that also didn’t come at the expense of losing scheduled annual games with Auburn, Alabama, and Florida.

On top of that if expansion inevitable I would want anyone over Texas. Texas can only coexist with those they can control like Oklahoma. LSU will be separated even more from the traditional SEC schools without the money, support from state like a true flagship, or a board of supervisors & administration that put LSU before their politics and corruption to compensate for this separation. This added isolation and lack of true support from the state and even it’s own power structure will hurt when attempting to deal with Texas on equal footing. Board members at other schools who are even more corrupt or political can still see benefit of being on a board of a strong university and system unlike LSU’s. I am not even sure many on LSU’s board even liked LSU when appointment and probably still don’t, and all are there mainly for themselves in one way or the other. Many will probably sell out to Texas first year if not already.

No.

You kids who don’t understand Texas are about to see Texas rise back to dominance. They are a sleeping giant showing that they are fixing to wake up. They will challenge Alabama before it’s done.

I said this in another thread—I don’t buy this. Texas and OU are historic, gigantic programs no matter what conference they’re in and I don’t think think them being in the SEC helps or hurts them any further.

True. Beat them on the regular and it won’t matter anyway.

Yes but can LSU maintain with Orgeron? Last leaves me questioning that. And as one poster just stated Texas has as much potential and resources as the Gumps. The trouble with LSU has always been the bullshite politics.

I just hate this attitude. Those are our historic opponents who we have decades worth of games against. You'd trade that and the fun games that come with it for a Big 12 schedule?

Houston is the New York City of Louisiana. Kids will be leaving Louisiana in droves to play for BIG $$$ Texas. Maybe not next year or the next, but while LSU is struggling to keep the lights on, Texas will be poaching top talent on and off the field.
