I was an Ecole spartan from pre-K through 4th in the late 80s. Ecole sports are long way from the Al Weidenbacher glory days.

I don’t even know if these schools went woke

Crescent City just lost their basketball coach… Shaun Dumas won a few state titles and got there every year, but I think he got tired of LHSAA rules… team probably also wasn’t getting the respect they deserved because of history and people lumping them in with Ecole and Ridgewood.

Now he’s gonna have a program which is just basketball playing a National schedule like AAU and he gets to basically recruit and handpick everyone else’s kids because they won’t be part of the LHSAA.

Ridgewood used to recruit kids to play from local playgrounds, Cleary, Bright, Miley, Pontiff (Metry) .

And ill be honest for a private school their campus looks terribly outdated. Where is that tuition money going towards?

I'm sure my dad asked that very same question over the years.

I graduated from Ecole and the only change I can see on campus is they finally tore down that really old little house that was used for pre-K.

Ridgewood has a solid sports program for a while in the 90’s into the 2000’s. Especially baseball.

I didn’t realize they were still playing football anyway.

Ecole looks like a dump from the outside that hasn’t been renovated in a while. I wonder how long it even lasts as a school

Hopefully they're not on the decline as schools.

Private school enrollment has been in a 30 year decline

Ecole had GOAT small high school unis and colours back in their 1980’s glory days.

Glory days ended w playoff loss to st Ed’s 78 or 79

edit I was corrected by a former EC coach - 09 was last playoff appearance

I graduated from St. Martin's in 1986 and played football, baseball, wrestling (State Champion ) against those same district teams... Ecole, Country Day, Crescent City, Newman, etc.. Pretty sure Ecole won 2-3 State Championships in baseball from 1982-1985. Have lots of friends who graduated from EC.

In the early 80's we played against Ganus, Ben Franklin, Belle Chase, Port Sulphur, Boothville-Venice, Fernwood, New Orleans Academy, Lutheran High, and River Oaks Academy. My FR year STM we were in the same district as Curtis 1A and I remember playing against Reggie Dupard (SMU)and Greg Dubroc (LSU). It was definitely one of those 59-0 type games

For those who remember River Oaks, Fernwood, and NOA, you're old like me

Grew up in Metairie, didn't know Ecole had a high school and forgot Ridgewood ever existed.

A terrible loss for us all indeed...

I played on the last Ridgewood football team to beat John Curtis. I think it's probably the last time Curtis missed the playoffs. (Yeah, I'm old.)

Yeah a kid that I played ball with at Woodlake playground got a partial scholly there I'm pretty sure. Really good baseball player I think he played at Delgado for a spell after high scruel.

Our 8th grade team played ridgewoods JV team when I was at Newman. That was a super fun game. Sad to see any schools lose a sports program. Hopefully they come back in the future.

Here's a couple old school photos from Ecole Classique in the 1980's. My older sisters and bro in law went there, played sports, cheerleaded, etc. after we moved back to New Orleans from the UK, so a lot of my best memories were from there.

Here's the great Al Weiderbacher
