The end of an era in Metairie... Two old high schools ending football?

It's a sad day for anyone who grew up in Metairie...

Ridgewood (1964 state champions) and Ecole Classique (who took over from Sam Barthe, famously the models for John Curtis) had been on the decline in football, but losing every game and participating is better than just withering away.

Hopefully they're not on the decline as schools.

Where was it posted that Ecole has stopped football? Ridgewood should’ve stopped after 2017.

Literally in the link in the OP it says that it’s unlikely they play again

Them along with Country Day, St Martin’s, Boothville Venice, Port Sulphur, Crescent City, and Lutheran was the 1A district years ago

I bet there were a lot of the kids in student sections of the Catholic League who could have been players at one of those smaller schools

Ecole had GOAT small high school unis and colours back in their 1980’s glory days. Their basketball gym was the coolest little gym that I ever played in - but I never played well there, sadly.

Shame

I live not very far from Ecole. Don’t quote me but I think towards the end they only had 18-20 kids or so dress out. Not very sustainable if one or several of your two-way players get injured. And ill be honest for a private school their campus looks terribly outdated. Where is that tuition money going towards?

They have been on the decline as schools. The only people I know that went there we let kicked out of the Catholic high schools.

The rise of magnet schools has drained the enrollment of second-rate privates like Ecole and Ridgewood. Why pay $10,000+/yr when your kid can get an equally good education at Haynes or Pat Taylor?
