As great as his 2019 was, Joe’s run vs UGA ‘18 is still my favorite LSU play in years

That was such a fun season. Grinding out wins against Auburn and Georgia were awesome

When I saw him standing his ground before the Miami game, I knew he was all business.

3rd and 17 changed the course of this program for decades.

I have been watching LSU football since 1987. We had an identity for the most part...that play call and superb execution changed everything.

I have witnessed 3 national championships in my life time and attended 2 (and 3 sec championships). But that play call was what caught us up to the future of college football.

He had a ton of WTF moments but one that stands out to me is in the SECCG, I think, when he threw a pass and it was deflected back and he caught his own pass, then ran for a gain.

I remember saying when I saw that happen, "Geez, is there anything this guy can't do? This guy is amazing!"

Great memories.

LSU whipped Georgia. Called by yours truly. Everyone was down after the Florida loss but this matchup gave me the same feeling #3 South Carolina coming to Tiger Stadium the week after LSU lost to Florida in 2012 gave me.

That 2018 LSU team was really good. Even with the archaic offense. That shows you how good Joe Burrow is. Bad coaching kept LSU from beating Florida and Texas A&M. Two games they should have won and gone 12-1.

When he successfully audibled in the ‘18 Miami game, I knew he was smarter than previous decade of LSU QBs.

However, I had no clue, just a year later, he’d produce the greatest single season a CFB QB has ever produced.

LSU’s offensive output against Miami wasn’t overwhelming or very impressive but you could tell there was a new sheriff in town and they had a new attitude.

In my eyes, this is the game Burrow and the team went from “good” to “great”. His command on the team elevated during this game.

If I remember right, UGA steam rolled some opponents that year and had they beat Bama (close game) they'd have been in the playoff. UGA always seems to fall just a few plays short.

And I remember sitting in the stands thinking to myself Kirby is going to let another uber talented QB transfer so he can continue playing this guy?

That play is what showed us it was different, but what changed the program was all of the strategic hires, recruitment and philosophy change that had been going on for two years before 3rd and 17.

It’s when shite like this happens, that you just know it’s destiny. Nobody was stopping Joe from getting that Heisman and leading LSU to the national championship.
