Unfortunately, I paid all my debt like an idiot. But I would like to hear some stories about how this debt forgiveness has helped you.

Department of Education has now canceled at least $3 billion in student loans since the beginning of the year.

fresh debt forgiveness is going to students who attended Westwood College, Marinello Schools of Beauty and the Court Reporting Institute, the Education Department announced on Friday.
Eligible borrowers will receive 100% loan discharges, totaling about $55.6 million.

Moves earlier in the year cleared more than $2.3 billion in student debt..... and another $1.3 billion owed by Americans described as totally and permanently disabled.

It's a shame we don't ever require the minimal in personal accountability anymore.

If you are working and paying taxes, at this point, you are just a fricking idiot.
I totally include myself in that.

This would have been useful information about 25 years ago.

I didn’t get my PhD partly because I didn’t want student loan debt. Wanted to make a better financial decision.

As of 3 minutes ago, I still owe about $46k. Right on par with what I’ve paid down. I want my gubment handout, dammit!

A beauty schools gets its debt relieved, but LSU health sciences can’t…
Hospitals have issues finding nurses to work, you never have an issue finding a person to cut your hair.

The only people who benefited from this round are those who went to “scam” schools and were deemed “defrauded”. $3B sounds like a lot, but it’s barely a drop in the bucket re: student loans debt in this country.

I worked 2 jobs from 2012 to 2018 to pay off all my debt. I think student loans are a sham and the federal government needs to get out from them to put downward pressure on tuition prices, but if I could pay them back through hard work, so can everyone else.

There's gonna be a huge push for forgiveness before the loan payment freeze ends in a few months.

More of a poliboard item, but will likely be a push around 2022 midterm elections

I just don’t see Congress working that fast. It’s set to expire October 1. I think it’s more likely we see another extension, maybe to Jan 1, and they try to get something done by then.

Biden can do it unilaterally is my understanding.

Ahhhhhh, the result of a country that has devolved into a revolving soft dictatorship via the Executive Order. The EO may be the worst thing to happen to this country since the failure to implement term limits on members of Congress.

In theory, yes. But Biden has already said that he has no appetite for unilateral forgiveness of more than $10k, at least by EO. He would expect Congress to step in behind that.
