If you're using your horn that much every day, then there is a good chance that you are the problem.

Once every couple weeks, almost exclusively at people who are not paying attention after a light turns green.

If someone cuts me off, starts to merge into me, etc., I'm usually focused on making an evasive maneuver and forget about the horn.

i'm about once/week. I'd be more, if i were directly behind the assholes that daily, get out of their lane because traffic is backed up at a red light, then traverse the turn lane, which i am in, so they can pass up all the cars stopped. Then stop in the turning lane, with their blinker, waiting for the light to turn green so they can cut in.

Funny story.

On the way to see Bob Marley's home place and mausoleum in Jamaica, our local cab driver got lost. We ended up with a free tour of the Jamaican countryside (which is a 4th world shithole and scary as frick btw). Anyway, the Jamaicans use their car horns as another form of communication. They blow it all the time for a variety of reasons and in different cadences/rhythms to mean different things. The cab ride was the most insightful, and at the same time, scary rides I've ever taken in my life. I thought we were dead multiple times.

Only in emergency situations. Impatience is not an emergency.

Another driver being distracted by their phone is always an emergency situation

That seems like a lot.

I honk if someone is veering into my lane or if someone breaks the 3 Mississippi rule at a green light.

If I have to honk more than once a week I start wondering what's going on.

Not all that often, but I had to lay on the horn this morning, along with the people ahead and behind me in a median when the idiot at the front just sat there and didn't have a basic understanding of right of way. Kid was waving to the car on the side street to come through, and that's just not how it works. Then missed at least two chances I saw where she could have crossed the highway.

couple times a day

if they didn't want me to use it, they should have put it in a less convenient spot

Maybe, maybe once per month.

When I was younger and first visited NYC I was struck by how much the horns were used. There was never a block I walked that didn't have at least two horns go off. I grew up in N.O. and rarely heard horns.
