And I mentioned my experience with Dems for campaigns in Nola, BR and DC bc you said I didnt know what I was talking about, when in fact i have first hand experience dealing with these dirty tactics.

I do get it. My original statement stands. Dems will never allow it.

Which also has a lot to do with people not bothering to show up in Dem cities. They see the writing on the wall. And there’s beaucoup who don’t care enough to even try to vote anymore.

150k voters, about 50k vote republican.

The only way is to have a republican that draws a few, and 2 Dems that split the remaining.

TD could do it by a few hundred users donating a few hours of their time.... but too many republicans tend to only care about their own family and act like bitch arse cowards that would rather run to another parish versus fighting for their city.

For whatever reason saying "someone should do something" is as much effort they can give their convictions.

You don't have to divide and conquer, when they are too lazy/selfish to spend time away from the TV to contribute.

For crying out loud...

What party are our two Senators a part of? How many of our six Representatives are REpublican? Which party controls the State Legislature?

Tell me again how the Democrats will never allow Republicans to win elections.

And here's an honest answer.

Can't take the time to vote if it means missing a little tailgating or a tee time.

But also, on this part :

There are a lot more independent voters than you'd think. Pretty much everyone I know rarely votes along party lines. They usually vote for a candidate they like or prefer regardless of the party they belong to. Same thing when it comes to bills and taxes. Most vote against taxes unless it's for something specific like parks or infrastructure or a tax that guarantees everyone pays, like sales or gas tax.

In my experience, more and more people are dropping party affiliation. And the fact that they are almost forced to have to pick one is frustrating as hell for them.

What we need is a candidate who isn't a member of either party, but can relate to both.

Not enough east Asian voters.

BR was 55% Black in 2010. Nationwide is 12-13%. This means that Baton Rouge has gotten greedy for blacks, and has acquired more than their share. Baton Rouge seems to like forced bussing, so maybe they can have some federal judge come in and bus their overages to an area that is underserved.

Most of the “Republicans” are RINO’s at best. So you think John Alario is Republican? We saw Jay Dardenne flip for money. Very Very few true conservatives, and the few we have are being bullied and browbeat into submission by Honor Choade and his line item veto pen.

It mainly the lack of a quality candidate. When Kip Holden ran against Bobby Simpson, Rolfe McCollister and a couple other lesser knowns he was clearly the best candidate. He didn’t quite live up to his expectations and ended up pushing really unjust tax increases and did it in a very questionable manner. See CATS.

Steve Carter got going too late and was probably too old to take on the challenge. He would have made a good Parish president.

It’s tough to find a truly good candidate. Any successful business person isn’t going to want to go through the dirty aspects of a campaign. I can’t blame them. It;s going to take a very unique individual who is likely already wealthy, articulate and a consensus builder for BR to get a conservative mayor. Now a days if you are conservative and want law and order you are labeled a racist. Not saying that should dissuade a truly honorable person but most people would rather not get into the mud of a campaign.

Someone will rise from the population who can lead BR forward but it probably has to get worse before that happens. People are selfish to an extent and people with the wherewithal to run for mayor have to ask if it;s worth the trouble.

Because we have too many parishes in an outdated boundary system. We need fewer parish governments roles with more control going to cities that can incorporate together.

Imagine St. George, Prarieville, St. Gabriel, and Gonzales combined to say frick you to Baton Rouge.

There hasn’t been a strong, conservative candidate in a long time.
Throw in the strong Democrat slant here and it’s a tough fight
We know his 40% are going to vote on each side. The fight is for the center and generally speaking you get those that do a lot of business with the C-P going for access and that’s the status quo.
Developers, engineering firms, contractors and all the social program leeches go that way.

This is it, in a nutshell. When politics gets dirty like we see it around the country today, candidates for higher-profile positions either have very clean backgrounds, their own funding and a strong enough backbone and family structure to weather the negative attacks (rare) or they are so egotistical enough they are able to let it go because getting the job means more to them than shielding themselves and their family and friends from such scrutiny (and often outright lies).

So this is just not true. The "flocks" of families leaving the parish is another BS belief.

Wrong
I personally know if young families who leave EBR to raise their young children where schools are better. They can’t afford private schools so they leave.
Per Wikipedia
2010 population 440,171
2019 population 440,059

There is no growth parish wide
Cities:
BR 2010 was 229,493 2019 220, 236 4% loss
Zachary was 14,960 2019 17,948 20% increase
Baker was 13,895 2019 13,194 a 5% decrease
Central was 26,864 2019 29,357 9.3% increase

The parish as a whole is stagnant. Surrounding parishes boomed. Inside the parish small enclaves with their own school systems grew. Other parts declined.

White flight is real.
