Why the statues were made in the first place is kind of a mystery

In a statement released after the vote, the council said the statues' pending removal is "a major step forward toward telling a more complete history of our community."
So, eliminating part of the history tells a more complete history? That's like saying leaving out flour and eggs makes for a more complete cake.

If you can show me any other country where statues honoring people who attempted to overthrow the government of the country and failed are commonplace, you might have a point.
As it is, you have no argument, are obviously full of shite, and are resorting to an appeal to ridicule.

So if we don't have a statue to honor it, it has been eliminated from history?
Do we have a statue somewhere honoring Benedict Arnold?
If not, has he been eliminated from history?

This is the same place that elected a mayor that compared the town itself to her own rapist.

If most of the city wants them removed, I guess that's their business. Just don't destroy them, donate them to another town or museum. That Robert E. Lee statue is a beautiful piece of art and must be preserved.

BERLIN -- A larger than life statue of Communist philosopher Karl Marx was unveiled Saturday on the 200th anniversary of his birth in the western German town of Trier. The celebratory uncovering of the 14-foot bronze statue of Marx, donated by China, sparked criticism by some who blame Marx for crimes committed by social revolutionaries in Russia, China and elsewhere in the name of Communism.
About 200 guests, including a delegation from China, applauded during the anniversary celebrations, when a bright red cover was lifted from the statue which depicts Marx with a frock and his signature bushy beard.

You don't know your history. Slavery was a secondary issue in the Civil War. It was about about states rights and tariffs.
This is an example of the irony that the people complaining about erasing history when you remove a statue are the same group that edit history for their own liking.

Very good. Replace them with a big bronze statue of Labron James and Colin Keppetnick. Then the city council can pay their historical respects to their idols.
Then a future President can grant refugee status to Uighurs who will then rightly demand that those hateful statues be removed for promoting slavery and genocide.

This is just silly. If it was about "state's rights", it was about a state's right to allow slavery. Potato/potahto

The south did not try to “overthrow the government.” And you fancy yourself as a Civil War expert?

If I have some time today I will see if I can find out.

Good. Now slavery never happened. Let's destroy all the history.

the war was not just abut slavery
the north had slaves. lincoln gave zero fricks about slaves and wanted them sent back to africa he only cared about the union. educate yourself and read his words.
blacks owned saves in the south. less than 7% of southerners owned slaves. they fought for family and state
the south was willing to give up slavery for succession. the north said no.CSA SOS judah benjamin asked this in 1863
