If you can show me any other country where statues honoring people who attempted to overthrow the government of the country and failed are commonplace, you might have a point.
It’s sort of interesting, isn’t it? Why are you deadset on destroying what is interesting and unique? Why clamor for “sameness”?

Probably
But not really over this
Over the concepts leading to this, maybe

We really need two countries.

even if they took down every statue of every white person ever created, they'd still bitch about slavery that no white person currently on earth ever participated in

From a “how are we to be governed perspective?” The South was fighting for a way of governing much closer to the plan of the founding fathers. Lincoln started us on the path of this bloated, over powerful Federal government.

Unfortunately, there is one going on now. Only one side is actively participating though

Dumb. Obviously. But at least there was some form of a process unlike others who just said frick it, we’ll tear them down at night

I don't have a problem with this as long as it was voted for and not torn down.

When's the book burning? And why is the that blackface governor allowed to stay? I thought blackface was racist?

Well, no. They are most well known for helping lead a rebellion against the United States of America for the purpose of allowing many people to own slaves.
Good grief, man. You are so very ignorant of actual history. Read some books, lots of books, and...post less.

So, eliminating part of the history tells a more complete history?

people who attempted to overthrow the government of the country
Second... every revolutionary hero in this country overthrew it's original rulers. But... I wouldn't be surprised if you want them canceled too.

Yeah, I have no issue with towns and cities and states deciding to change who they honor or put in places of prominence over time. Street names change, schools change, etc.
I just wish the premises for these moves were more nuanced and reasonable, and not the product of an illiberal, ahistorical frenzy. They recently changed the name of Grady High in Atlanta. Nuanced guy, did a lot of good, had some shitty views on certain things but nothing abnormal for the time.
It'd just be so refreshing if as a city we could go "we honored Henry Grady for 96 years as a notable Atlantan, but the time has come to move on and move forward. With that, we want to honor another famous Atlantan in this new age, blah blah blah."
But that's not how it works. You don't look to the future, you burn down the past and salt the fields because deep down they know that applying any nuance to the past will open up the present to the same examination, and that will show the massive flaws of the people and ideas they're celebrating now.

i was waiting for someone to come and start with this angle. two things happen in every thread about statues. someone wants to redo the civil war and then someone or many people flock to tell us it wasnt about slavey but about the state right to slavery.

Be careful. Statues fight back in Virginia. Ask the poor mope last summer who got decapitated by one.

There’s no living with these people. They are what they are.
They won’t change.
They won’t change.
