I think what would have made it better for me is if Ally would have been more involved in the season or they would have gotten back together. She is a great character and he's funnier when he's around her. They were a fantastic couple. You waited multiple episodes and the show built up their seeing each other for the first time for multiple episodes and it just ended up them being around each other for 10 minutes of screen time. That was just disappointing to me. And now she's got a boyfriend.
But, the last two episodes redeemed almost everything for me. I love Gata and if he would have been left out of the closing act, I would have been pretty let down.

She's great. But, as I said earlier in the thread, she grounds Dave and he wouldn't have spiraled out of control as much with her. If he doesn't spiral then the argument with GaTa at the end doesn't really make sense. There wouldn't have been as big of payoff at the end if they didn't tear down Dave in the beginning IMO.

overall, i didn't think s2 was as good as s1, but i think the gap is going to lessen with time.
has dave said anything homophobic in any of his lyrics? i can't think of any, but the gay episode might have been his way of apologizing if so. and giving a nod that it's hard to be black, it's hard to be gay, it's extra hard to be both. who knows
s2e9 might be my favorite episode of the series

Absolutely.
Also Gata has to be in my top 3 favorite supporting casts. His character is pure and raw.

Just finished and it was fricking amazing!
Was worried about Gata for a second and glad LD put him on.
Said it earlier but Gata is the best. I do like the Darius from ATL also.
They were definitely at the VMAs based on the Lil NasX and Ally watching.
Then it went straight to Delaware.

I think the Delaware thing was to show that even though they weren’t playing stadiums and arenas like LD wanted, they were still having a great time performing with their friends and grateful for their opportunity. A callback to the convo with Gata and LD at the record label meeting.

Just watched last night and yeah they were 100% at the VMAs, and on the road (in Delaware) after.
Might be a shitty opinion but I didn't like gatas rap near as much as Dave's. The end of this season was nice in a feel good way in that you feel happy for everyone at the end, but the end of season 1 had me with goosebumps jumping off the damn couch.
Also for someone ignorant like myself, I think this show kinda loosely follows Daves real life right? I know the breakfast club thinf anyway was a real thing. So does the end of this season mirror real life any?

So I posted this a month ago, and holy shite - what a payoff at the end. That setup with Gata standing alone in the dark with tears rolling down his cheeks was so heavy.

Gotta agree. They saved the season from being mediocre and made the season pretty good. It's still nowhere near how good season 1 was but I'm pleased with how they wrapped it up.

That's because Gata isn't very good. But that's not the point, at least for me. It's nice to see LD giving Gata some love and Gata getting to wild out a little in front of fans. We saw him in his element standing on his car with those birthday party kids, so actually being on stage at the VMAs or even on tour would've been heaven for him.
