It's fun for a vacation but I'm sure it gets old quick.

Live close to snow but not in it.

I’ve heard good and bad things about snow, but I wanted to get the OT’s take. For those of you who live where there is abundant snowfall, do you love it, hate it, or are just meh about it?
I always love the first snow of the year. And a good mid-week blizzard is always enjoyable.
Aside from that it's just meh.

Exactly. This is only an hour from my house last weekend and it rarely snows here:

Very much so. As a kid it’s awesome. You get snow days and snowball fights and adventuring.
Then you become an adult and realize how much of a pain in the arse it is.
I’ve lived long enough in the south to be sick of dealing with it year round. I didn’t know how bad I got season affected disorder as an adult until moving to the south. Been much happier during winter here than up north.

Nah, getting snowed in on a weekend is one of life's pleasures.

I’m probably a little overrated, but most of it’s true.

Not being able to see grass for a couple months this winter up here sucked. First winter up north. Shoveling a 5x5 grass area after every snow so my dog could pee in grass got old. Overnight when the snow would ice over on roads got old. Shoveling got old.
One year up north down, already want to move south.

Depends on where you live. Snow in Birmingham, AL is underrated. The whole city shuts down and is like a big, disaster party. Nothing like going to the grocery store and see it sold out of EVERYTHING.
Snow in Chicago or Cleveland or somewhere like that gets old quick. All my customers up that way hate the snow.

Shoveling sucks.
Snowblowers are awesome.
If you're willing to spend the money, it's not a big hassle. Now all the assholes that don't know how to drive in it is a completely different story.
Snowstorm in March paid for the blower tenfold

Been in Chicago now for two full winters and here are my thoughts after spending my previous 39 years in the South:
1. Snow and the cold in general are awesome November and December. Sets the holiday mood perfectly
2. January and February really are the doldrums. And I love snow, but learned this year there is a limit to everything. Especially when 41" gets dropped in three weeks
3. There is nothing better than sitting inside with a stiff drink, a fire going and watching the snow fall
4. As awesome as #3 is, the aftermath, especially after a serious snowfall, is a gigantic mess
Overall, I would still take snow and cold and the really bad months in January/February over the seemingly neverending heat in the Gulf South that lasts from June through September. Just a personal preference.

Its fun for vacation for like a week and for pictures but it is not fun to actually live and work in day to day.

People in areas that rarely, if ever, get snow romanticize the hell out of it. Seems like it'd be something that gets old in a hurry.
Eastern snow sucks. Western snow is a lot better. In the Rockies you get snow, but it doesn’t get all dingy like it does in Pittsburgh. Plus, in the East, it’s usually grey and gloomy, while in the West, it’s usually beautiful blue skies. The West also has low humidity, so when it’s 25 degrees with snow on the ground, you are comfortable with a light jacket on if you are in the sun (and for 10 minutes).
I have a house in Utah. If you live there - not above 5,000 feet elevation - you will enjoy the winters and the amazing outdoor activities available. And the summers are a dream. Most winters I could get by without driveway maintenance, and just with a little snow blowing or shoveling. The grounds only hold snow for about two months.

Its only cool if
1. you're skiing
2. you work for the state and get to skip work
3. you're a fricking kid

Ain't that the truth. I had to go to Philly for work once the week after a pretty big snow storm. There were piles of grey snow everywhere and the sun never came out the 3 days I was there. I'd have horrible depression if I had to see that every winter.

Depends on the part of the country you are in. In Colorado, the more snow the better, for the reasons you just mentioned, but away from skiing and mountain activities, snow sucks. I lived in colorado for about six years. The fall was always exciting waiting for the first snow, big snow storms were always exciting, but when the mid to late spring came along and the mountain closed, the melting season is fricking miserable. Mud and water everywhere, snow piles that are hard as rocks since they melt and refreeze every night, and all of the sand that they have put on the roads throughout the year is loose and everywhere again so its all over your car and gets tracked in your house. The rivers are too high to fish, too cold to float or raft, and all of the mountain bike/hiking trails are a soupy muddy mess. Spring everywhere else is exciting, spring blows in the mountains.

I live in Pittsburgh. It’s fun for a the first couple of snow falls but gets real old when it’s still snowing in March, April and sometimes even May. I didn’t see my grass all of February because it was covered in snow and there was barely any sun. shite can get depressing.

On flat land, yeah probably. Wouldn't move to the Midwest.
On a slope, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Ended up in Idaho despite never previously living outside of the South because of it.
