I, like my deceased dad, love watching western movies and shows. So a few weeks ago I noticed an actor named Audie Murphy starring in a bunch of them. So I googled his name and holy crap. Audie was a war hero. He was one of the most decorated American combat soldiers of World War II. He's even buried at Arlington.

I honestly had no idea he was even an actor. I only knew him from his WWII exploits.

Early 50's. I was just 4 years old when Audie was killed in that plane crash in 1971.

This shouldn't really be a shocker, he was also a fairly accomplished songwriter.

Of course he was an actor Hollywood had to cash in somehow. And the irony of the whole situation is that he died in a plane crash in 72 he was still a fairly young man.

This board is full of Texans and old people.

You're about to get lit up for not knowing who Audie Murphy is.

Sergeant Audie Murphy Club

The Audie Murphy Club is a pretty prestigious Club that Army Enlisted can become a member of through a lot of hard work and dedication. There’s a whole list of qualifications you have to meet before you can become a member. I never tried it when I was in the Army. But some friends of mine were. They said it was one of the hardest boards they ever attended.

that actually paid attention to history when they were growing up, not just disregarding everything that happened before they were born
