Culotta: Max Johnson clearly number 1 and not even close.

Gave many reason this morning but the number one reason being Max gives defenses a lot more to defend. He said what we all say about Brennan that he has an NFL arm however he does not have the ability to extend plays like Max. He mentioned that there is a big gap between Max and Myles and it's not even close.
While I agree that Max is still leading I don't agree that the gap is currently that large. One thing he did not mention is seniority and currently I believe the coaches are taking that into consideration. But when the rubber hits the road in the fall seniority goes out the window and the QB that give's LSU the best chance to win on Saturdays is Max. You can install the entire playbook with Max under center whereas a lot of the playbook is closed when Myles is under center. The reason is simple. Max can run.

Just look at some of Max’s runs in the second half-defenses will forced to account for this

I predict Johnson to start and will get to play with his brother in 22
Myles will transfer to Tulane and finish out his career and keep an eye on the family business.

If he did transfer Tulane would be perfect for Myles.

Hate that for Brennan if true, but you can’t say he wasn’t given every opportunity to show out. We have to put the best guy on the field.

Solid take. Brennan is a better passer. Guess we will see.

Can only take so much from a spring game, but this is what I saw and about what I expected:
1. Brennan had better command and did better with the 1st team than Max did, Coach O even mentioned this at his halftime interview that Myles won the 1st half
2. Johnson still is way better under pressure or when forced out the pocket, which makes total sense, and he did way better with the 2nd team offense than Myles did, as the 2nd team OL was not particularly good, and Myles struggled, while Max was simply better there...I will say it seemed like the 2nd team OL played much better for Max too, where for Myles he was getting pressured on nearly every throw (going back re-watching things). In the end, Brennan cant handle pressure very well, especially right now not being quite 100% probably still.
In the end the spring game is a very small sample size of all the reps these QBs take in the spring, summer and fall and get judged on, but nothing was too surprising to me. Johnson is still clearly the better QB between the 2 of them when under pressure, but Myles certainly has the better arm between the 2 and to me looks better in a clean pocket. They both have their advantages and disadvantages, it was fun to see them both "gaming" a bit and not holding back much.
In the end I think who starts may come down to the OL and how well the coaches think it will hold up. IF they believe it can hold up pretty well, I think Myles might have the advantage, if they believe they will struggle to protect, then you probably have to look at Max as your best option.

Seniority doesn’t mean shite. This team is young guns who won a big road game with max

Brennan has been given every chance to take the reins. Unfortunately, an injury derailed his opportunity and allowed Johnson to step up. Johnson is the present and future

The key is who can put the ball in the playmaker’s hands. With the best chance to succeed. Sometimes that playmaker is the QB, but that is the question to assess. Iole sing towards Max, but not because he can run. I think he makes good decisions. I think Myles puts the ball at risk far more. During the early part of the game, Max threw some balls away, rather than putting it at risk. Myles threw several balls that were nearly intercepted. On the one hand, it shows that he can squeeze it into a small window, but that’s not going to work many times. Myles needs to show how to extend plays. He doesn’t have to run, but he has to show he can maneuver in the pocket when needed. He has to know when to take risks, and when it isn’t worthwhile. He hasn’t committed a lot of turnovers, but he is on the edge. Max protects the ball much more, because he knows he almost always has himself as an outlet. Myles can exceed Max, but he either has to read defenses better than Max, extend plays occasionally, and make good decisions.

If Myles is where he could be given his years in college and can sling it like Aaron Rogers, then he should still be able to beat out Max.

But not THAT much better to keep Johnson off the field.

If that's the case you tell Brennan now and let him transfer
It scares me not having depth though

To me, this is what everyone who is a Brennan supporter fails to recognize.
He breaks down under pressure. Max, as a freshman, was showing signs of navigating the pocket better than Brennan was ever able to do.
Brennan has the stronger arm. And, there is always the chance that the final light bulb comes on and he relaxes in the pocket. But, there's just as much of a chance that Max takes a significant step forward himself.
Unlike Jordy, I don't think this is decided. IF Brennan were, himself, to take a step forward and Max didn't, he'd be the clear starter. IF Max takes a step forward, and Brennan doesn't, Max would be the guy.

This is complete and unsupported bs. I hate when people say “It’s not even close” because it’s absolutely close. If it wasn’t even close, max would be named the starter.

OL performance depends a lot who is under center. Max makes the OL look the bests out of all the QBs. Max has better pocket awareness and leverages the OL's blocking the best out of all the QBs. You can tell he the son of a NFL QB.
