Eleanor Roosevelt was FDR's distant relative, I think about 6th cousin. About as closely related as Abe Lincoln and Brad Pitt.

Cousin mating isn’t dangerous if it’s a one-off. Where it becomes a real problem is in cultures where it becomes the norm, especially in groups like Gulf Arabs and Hasidic Jews. They have a real problem with this because they’re clannish and like to keep wealth within the family. A big dowry means nothing if your daughter is marrying your brothers son. The wealth stays in the family. But so does the Tay-Sachs.

What movie is that gif from?

Knowing (2009) with Nicolas Cage. I had to look it up, I've never seen it and only vaguely remember when it came out.

I guess the upside is you don’t have to choose which side of the family you’re spending the holiday with.

Prince Harry should have followed this advice. He let in an outsider. He could have married Princess Beatrice, the other royal ginger. Should have kept it in the family.

That's not what it says.

It actually says that the average modern marriage are between seventh cousins.

They share almost no generic material.

The closer you get the more in common.

It's interesting because in the old days people used to settle down within six miles of where they were born, so there were lots of relatives.

Seems to be celebrated in the breeding of dogs and race horses.

This Covid 19 pandemic is one slippery slope. I hear some Austrailan now saying Isolate with your cousin mate!
