I guess that's good news if you have an insanely hot cousin.

True. But how many insanely hot people are settling for their cousins?

I had two female first cousins that I never met until I was 30 years old, they were around my age, and theoretically I could have randomly become involved with on and not know they were a cousin. With the way family’s split up today, along with animosity among siblings, and being spread across the country, people growing up not knowing their cousin is not that unusual today.

You might want to look for a new neighborhood. That's a pedophile slogan.

Before the American Civil War, there was no legislation against "cousin marriage", except maybe Louisiana.

Recall that before regional/nationwide transportation networks and mobility became a thing, folks rarely traveled more than 30 miles (really, closer to 6 - 10) from where they were born in their entire life.

With no birth control and large families being the norm in the Antebellum, largely agrarian United States, the percentage of folks you were related to in that 30 mile circle (again, really closer to 6 to 10) was shockingly high. Ergo, if you wanted to get married you had to at least consider some distant cousins.
