$5 she ordered through the App and set her own name to China and then changed the app back when she was done. Just trying to make people aware and all.

She probably told them her name was "China". I'd say with 100% certainty that's what happened.

Maybe she purposely mispronounced her own name as "TY-NA" even though it's spelled TINA and typically pronounced as "TEE-NA".

Either way this bitch was trying to manipulate the situation to get a story.

A friend of mine is named Valerie and when she orders takeout from a certain Chinese restaurant the receipt always lists her name as Valero. It’s been going on for years, she doesn’t even give them her name anymore. It’s apparently listed in their system connected to her phone number.

How much y’all think she could get from a GFM?

Looks like you may be out $5. Per the article:

quote:

Tina went to Chick-fil-A in Houston on March 22 to pick up food ahead of the dinner rush. She gave her order to the employee at the drive-thru, who also took down her name and put it in the iPad ordering system.

"I always make a point to say 'tee-na,' especially when wearing my mask," she said, emphasizing the two syllables of her name. She had also scanned her app for the order, which she said showed the worker her name.

The CFA manager emailed her:
quote:

I spoke with my team members from that shift and they informed me that they misheard 'Tina' as 'China' and that it had nothing to do with your ethnicity."

Why the frick do people get bent out of shape about this. If I went to a restaurant and my receipt had me listed as fat white dude at end of bar I'd chuckle.

Because it usually pays. Especially if you're a minority.

Shouldn’t that correct the name though, I just give my first name and after I scan the app they call me first name and last initial.

In the end it sounds like mask muffling may be the culprit.

Could have been Weena. That would have been catastrophic for her if someone thought she was a massive poultry eating penis with a car

Okay, let’s see it.

Also, I bet she said “China” as her name just to get this story going.

The ONLY way Chick Fil A collects your name for an order is when you order via the App. I bet you her phone autocorrected Tina to China, thus SHE put that name on the order.

is it possible she pronounces her name tyna and it was an honest mistake?

I mean, "Tina" and "China" aren't very far off at all and it is possible autocorrect took over.

Well within the realm of possibility.

People are too fricking sensitive.

Yeppers.

Didn’t even bother reading article in OP. I can’t fathom jumping straight to racism in that scenario. First thought was that it was misheard either through speaker system (would employee even see the customer in this scenario) or if taking directly from a person because of masks (also mask seeing mouth to help when unclear), sneeze guards, other noise, and pronunciation. I have heard of people with a version of “China” as their name.

2nd thought was autocorrect. My iPhone still wants to correct my kid’s name even after adding scenarios to the Text Replacement setting to stop this. Apple’s auto correct is awful.

Why bother going past those or even thinking about it at all.

People like to jump on the offended bandwagon both for attention or for politics. I used to see a couple of liberal friends that I went to HS, middle, and part of elementary school with post some stuff about growing up during that time frame to push some current liberal political narrative that I knew was absolutely not true.
