Two teenagers were shot Saturday night on Bourbon Street, according to New Orleans police. The shooting happened in the 500 block of Bourbon at about 10:30 p.m., said Jonathan Fourcade, spokesman for New Orleans Emergency Medical Services. One victim was taken to a hospital via EMS and another was taken to a hospital by private car, the NOPD said. Police crime scene tape was stretched across the block. This is a developing story.

It's crazy that from the 80's to 2000 there was basically zero violent crime on Bourbon. Yes there were fist fights amongst drunks but not stabbings and shootings. NOPD ruled with an iron fist and, yes they violated the shite out of people's Civil Rights on occasion, but you weren't in danger. Then the Consent Decree and body cams came along and now it is a free fire zone with monthly shootings.

How did it go from one extreme to the other? Keep in mind that, during the 80's when Bourbon was safe, NOLA was in the midst of the Crack Wars and had the highest homicide rate in the country next to Miami. Now we are at a very low overall national violent crime rate and this is happening. Plus we have LSP with a permanent presence down there. Why can't they put a stop to this? What has changed and why aren't they doing something?

A city dependent on tourism and entertainment has leadership that can give a frick less about making sure those industries can operate safely and effectively.

They got rid of Carlos Marcelo and organized crime. The mafia kept order in NOLA for years (as far as crime went). They kept the thugs in check. Once the mob was removed it was game on for all the shite we see now.
