I don’t see the point in taking the COVID Vaccine if I have a 99.97 survival rate. I already had COVID and was sick for less then a day. I don’t see the point when it hasn’t even been proven that it stops the spread of the virus. It just lessens the severity of it. I’m not Anti-Vax by any stretch. I just don’t think I need it and it was also rushed. Most vaccines take years to develop. What are y’all’s thoughts?

I agree.

I am not elderly, and my weight is in the normal range (albeit ALMOST to "overweight"). I have none of the standard comorbidities, and I seldom get sick enough to miss a day of work.

When I eventually get COVID (it is a virus ... everyone will get it eventually), I will feel like crap for a day or two, and otherwise I will work from home for a week or two.

Why the HELL would I take an experimental drug that was rushed through the approval process without all the normal protections?

No thanks.

I'm stepping up to the plate and donating my dose to a transgender black-latinx social worker doctor fireperson.

Flu has a 99.98% survival rate....but you still get your Flu vax every year right?

People who already had it should be at the bottom of the list of those who need it.

That said:

That is just the makers being conservative. And in fact the data is coming in that seems to suggest it does stop the spread. Which makes all the sense in the world.

So if you are a healthy young adult that HASN'T had it before, you should still probably get it so that you can feel a little more at ease when visiting your mom or granny.

So I don’t contract and give it to somebody who doesn’t have a 99.7% survival rate...like my parents who are in their 70’s.

While it may not protect you... and may not protect anyone else, it'll make you feel like you re doing something and will signal to others that you are doing something. Isn't that what's really important?

Honestly, if the vaccine was to help life get back to a more normal way, I would be all about it. But when you have Fauci and his congregation all saying that even after getting vaccinated you have to keep distance, wear masks (more than one), can't go to church, etc., it make me question the point of it all. They are basically admitting that the vaccine doesn't work.

I went fishing with a 58 year old guide in early December. By mid January he had passed away after having been in ICU for nearly a month. I received my second vaccination last week. When it gets bad, it's bad.

This can be very significant. COVID can be more than just a respiratory disease. My colleagues young patients with chronic neurological complications from COVID-related strokes, GI infarcts, heart disease, etc. Reducing morbidity is important.

While it hasn't been proven to prevent transmission, it probably significantly reduce it so you the more people that get vaccinated, the better chance we have of reducing prevalence.

The Federal government doesn't realize it, but they explicitly disincentivized the entire healthy population from getting the vaccine. If social distancing and masking are going to continue even if we are all vaxxed there is no reason to get it.

I've made my thoughts very clear to my friends, family and the gym guys. The reason I am opposed to wearing a mask is because I don't believe Covid is anything beyond this year's strain of the Flu. I've never been afraid of the flu. I've had the flu. It's great for losing a couple of pounds.

An analogy: I don't believe in vampires. So, if the doctor offered me a vampire shot that made me immune to bite's effect I would refuse. So, just because there is a vaccine for something I don't believe in why should I take the vaccine?

My wife and many others on the hospital staff feel the same way. Big headline this morning on Yahoo New: Hospital staff are refusing to take vaccine!

The Virus Czar Fauci may agree with you. This morning at a Covid19 Task Force presser Fauci was saying some vaccines may make a more dangerous variant of Covid19 through mutations.....lol!

Most viruses that we vaccinate against have very very high survival rates so I don't get this argument. It is possible to still get very very sick and have serious effects and live, personally, I would like to avoid that possible outcome.

OP -

This is not a discussion you can have with most people. Because there is too much anxiety surrounding it.

It’s much better to deal with facts. I can offer you a small % of facts to consider. I am part of a large medical group that is statewide.

We have 46 total physicians in the group. Want to take a guess as to how many of us have taken the COVID vaccine?

8.

(Eight)

One has diabetes, 4 of us are over 60, one has Lupus, and the others have medical issues in their family where any exposure could be serious. (Transplant recipients in nuclear family or parents battling cancer).

There is not a single physician in our group who has received the vaccine because “it could protect them or someone else”.

We have also had 5 physicians test positive for COVID in the past year and 2 of them were sick enough to miss a week of work. (Both said it was about like a bad flu).
