MASH - "The Late Captain Pierce"
A clerical error declares Hawkeye dead, and army red tape will not permit the mistake to be corrected.
You can trace the turning point for MASH not to one season, or even one episode, but to one scene. Hawkeye boards the bodybag bus, determined to desert. BJ (a terrible replacement for Trapper) comes aboard and tells him wounded are expected to arrive soon and he'll be needed. Hawkeye gives a long, preachy speech about how nothing he can do will stop the killing etc etc etc...
BJ leaves and the bus drives off. We hear the sound of choppers flying into camp. The bus stops, Hawkeye gets off and wearily makes his way back to the OR.
And MASH is never again quite the same show. Guilt-ridden liberalism will be the rule from this point on, and the anarchic rebellion will fade away.

I liked those later episodes written and/or directed by Alan Alda, when he was determinedly trying to convince Americans of the futility of the Vietnam War - 7 or 8 years after the evacuation of Saigon.

I remember they were going to replace Bo and Luke but don't remember why.
They sucked

Any show (especially a comedy) that has to resort to song and dance scenes or song and dance filled episodes has usually hit bottom.
Unless it’s a show based on singing and dancing.
Also, when they start rerunning plot lines.

pretty much the exact moment simpsons went downhill. It has never really been near as good as it was before that episode.

"Spock's Brain" in TOS
Dallas Bobby returns from the dead and the entire ninth season is revealed to have been an extended dream in "Blast from the Past."
Growing Pains Leonard DiCaprio joins the cast as homeless teen Luke Brower in "Stop, Luke, and Listen."
David and Maddie finally sleep together in "Moonlighting". The show was never the same after that.
Jack Bauer's Father and Brother are terrorist in 24 and he has to torture and kill them
I've tried to go through a few several decades to mix it up.

Lost - Taking Ajira 316 back to the island. On purpose.
WWF - Stone Cold turns heel and joins Vince McMahon in 2001. The show would never be as popular as it was, ever again.

The Andy Griffith Show at the first frame of the first episode of season six. That’s when Knotts left the show and it transitioned from black and white to color. Knotts was the heart of the show and the “simpler time, sweeter place” aura of Mayberry as the ideal small town a lot of Americans long for plays so much better in black and white.

It was over a contract dispute. The show was popular and John and Tim wanted more money. CBS said, meh, we can make this show without you. Spoiler alert: Nuh uh.

pretty much almost every comedy where the protagonist boy and girl begin dating and the show breaks down into couples. Big bang Theory is a great example of this in recent times.

At least half of the posts in this thread are not shark jumps.

I mean, we knew ever since Season 3 that some variation of that was going to happen. Plus I think Kate had one hell of a good reason to go back. While I still enjoyed the season, it would more be the time travel in Season 5 that would be closer to a jumping the shark than going back to the Island.

One of the jumping the shark moments is on the first page now, and it was going in reverse in Ready Player One. It took over 5 years for someone to figure out that you win a video game race by only going in reverse. Would have been figured out the first fricking race, not thousands of attempts later. That film lost me very early on because it’s clear that Spielberg does not remotely understand video games or the internet.
