How is Alabama so much more talented than other top recruiting CFB teams?

Ohio State, Georgia and even USC until a couple yrs ago recruit right there with them , and even beat them in some years in the rankings, yet Alabama looks like they have twice the talent as those other top recruiting teams.

Alabama recruiting Rankings over last 4 yrs:

2017 - #1

2018 - #5

2019 - #1

2020- #2

Avg 4 year class of 2.25.

Obviously incredible, but they're not getting the #1 class every single year like they were 5-10 yrs ago.

Oh State got blown off the field tonight with a 4 year avg class of 5.75 and Georgia gets taken to the woodshed by them with this year with a BETTER 4 year avg class of 1.75.

Are the other coaches that much worse with essentially the same level of talent?

It's not just rankings. Saban is amazing at developing these players

2017 recruiting class was the best of all time and it’s not even that close.

Combine it with Jalen Hurts -> Tua -> Mac and throw in Nick Saban and there you go.

Georgia's problem was obviously QB play. The other thing is that Alabama's super talented players wait their turn instead of transfer out at the first sign of adversity. They build insane depth like this.

They also have a culture built to where guys want to stay for 4 years more often than they would at somewhere like Georgia, where damn near every draft eligible player runs to the NFL the first chance they get.

I'd like to see a post season analysis of NFL players on Alabama 3 years after each season. I'd be pretty surprised if they're not #1 there on a rolling average, and certainly #1 3 years post championship seasons.

They also found a way to get an all-world WR play 4 seasons. That's one of the things they seem to do best.

It's not just the recruiting, it's being able to retain those guys every single year. Keeping a guys like Smith and Harris for 4 years is ridiculous. No one else has figured that part out yet.

First problem here is you're taking the rankings of keyboard scouts as gospel. Barton Simmons and co. had Mac Jones as a 3*, several receivers rated higher than Devonta Smith, Christian BArmore outside the top 100, etc.

Use your eyes to judge talent, not what some website tells you about how good a kid was when he was 17. OSU got blown off the field because Alabama had a lot more talent than they did. That's not to say that the talent wasn't equal when these kids were 17, developing plays a large part, but recruiting rankings are a a footnote, not the be all end all. If those guys were that great at it they'd be getting paid millions to GM an NFL franchise

Did you just see Saban’s interviews?

He’s the answer.

And the more he gets soft the better he’s gonna be in this era.

Great talent. Amazing development. Decent gameday coach. It’s not too hard to see why they’re the best right now with Saban

You can't just look at class ranking and star ratings.

Which would be better to you:

A school that signs two 5 Star WRs, a 4 star RB, a 3 star QB, two 3 Star OL, and a 2 star DL.

A school that signs two 5 Star OL, a 4 Star DL, two 3 Star RB, a 3 Star QB, and a 2 star WR.

Recruiting ranking would be essentially the same, but the team with the 5 star OL is likely to be better since a great OLine makes 2 and 3 stars look better.

They get great players out of high school and do a far better job than anybody of developing all of them.
