I would say it's about attempting to ruin Trump's reputation going forward but also about fracturing the Republican party. Some percentage of Republicans will follow Trump but if you drive this wedge between him and certain Republicans (who never liked him anyway and just used him and his supporters) you can divide the Republican party for years and take control.

The Republican party has been over for a long time, the funeral was in 2016 when Trump lowered the casket in.

I think it's simply out of fear.
The elites saw merely THE TIP of the Right's spear. Yes, I think Antifa did MOST of the actual violence on 1/6, but they didn't expect the amount of people willing to walk thru their doors and snatch them up.
They are absolutely fawking freaking out from fear.
It won't matter. The elites started it. Someone else will finish it. Might not even be our generation. But, evil will not win in the end.
