This fits what a poster around here has been saying about the change in scheduling being a good thing. I like having the last interview with him

LSU will give Coach Freeman around a 1.5 million more reason to be a tiger

I think any coach with confidence in their ability looks at the situations pretty evenly. On one hand, you can come in and "right the ship" at LSU and continue a push to make it to the playoffs and championship. On the other hand, you can be the "difference maker" at ND and give them that last little push to get over the hump that they were missing this year.

Here is the problem with your line of thinking. Notre Dame does not have the talent to win a title today. We just saw it as plain as day. They are a little closer on defense than offense, but that gap isn’t going to be closed in what I’m sure Freeman would hope to be a two year stint before moving up the ladder.

LSU’s defense obviously had issues this season, but I think we all know coaching was the biggest deficiency. There are only two positions that had legitimate issues with talent, and one just got addressed in a big way in this class, as we landed the two best safeties available. If some of our younger guys step up at LB, then you have the young talent to build a championship quality defense available on day one.

If Freeman is looking to make a big splash in a short stint, LSU is the better path to that. That may not trump other considerations that he and his family may have, but we offer him the better on-field opportunity from a talent perspective.

Which school?

Michigan St, but that was a tough looking position last year. A complete rebuild and they ended up with their fourth or fifth choice head coach.

Almost all LSU players are returning too plus he has guys like Stingley in the secondary. ND is similar to LSU they're not setup for consistent success in staying elite. They have their run every few years or so like LSU. Right now LSU is easily the more talented team and fastest way to get a HC job. I'd imagine they'd pay more than anyone else too. That has to mean something.

Respectfully have to disagree.

The LSU “runs” end in playing for & (nearly always) winning a NC.

The ND “runs” end in a beat down in either a NC or CFP game.

Lol... Wut?

What could possibly convince you of this. I have never heard a bad word about O when coaches, journalists, players meet him. He is unanimously the most well-liked coach in football. That was just a really dumb thing to type.

How do you top that? Saban is the worst HBC in the SEC West? Come on, say something else patently dumb.

Why, is Kelly going to “accidentally” kill O too?

Lame response...you can sell our recruiting base and facilities. You can sell our passionate fanbase and the SEC. You cannot have a discussion with O versus Kelly and walk away more impressed with O. IMHO

The point is both programs go on a high about every 4 years to get deep somewhere. Of course LSU is more talented I don't think that's debatable just by looking at the NFL.

I don't think O is as dumb as some people like to make out, and I'm not so sure him naming Freeman as his #1 choice publicly is a mistake.
It's an aggressive, high stakes move. Several other big programs are after him too. But O can say he knows what it takes to win a title, he knows what type of coaches he needs... and Freeman is that guy. Texas, Auburn, Notre Dame are all going to be in position to say "I THINK with you we can..."; O can say "I just did it, I KNOW we can".

It's a sort of brutal honesty that appeals to the target, just like Saban telling a recruit that he can win a title if he goes to Alabama vs, say, Kirby telling him they can take that next step. LSU topped Bama and the CFB world, then the defense collapsed. If they can restore the defense and continue to improve the offense (which seems to be in place), he's got a good chance to do it again. Aim at 2-3 yrs to get there, with a good QB (either Johnson or Finley) and WRs, need the defense to hold Bama down.

People talk about CEO job being in jeopardy due to Title IX or performance ( LSU bounces back IMO on performance). That leaves the looming NCAA investigation. It’s not out of the realm of possibility Freeman finds himself as interim and ultimately HC. I’d be selling that possibility behind closed doors. The investigation could be nothing or it could be a bombshell especially if their is anything the national media can latch on to. They latch on to something they’ll ride that shite into the dirt.

If the defense improves and plays lights out, LSU ain't have a mediocre year.

Kelly is a unliked murdering a-hole. He might have more x and o knowledge but O can out recruit him. If he was anywhere but ND he would have been gone for killing that student.

So, you think O is telling him "you know I'm probably about to get fired and sanctions on our program so you could possibly be the HC here." Yeah, that's a great selling point.

Have you ever witnessed Kelly speak and interact with others? He’s a complete douche!
I think geography is ND’s only advantage. The ceiling at Notre Dame has been reached. LSU has no ceiling.
