Saban also advised Skip to hire Houston Nutt upon his departure .... so.

To be fair Houston Nutt would have done great things with the talent Saban left at LSU. Houston Nutt was an outstanding coach but a terrible recruiter and talent evaluator. He won a handful of games with the talent Orgeron pulled in at Ole Miss for a couple years before Nutt’s recruited players came in and they immediately went into the tank.

I think he is. It really makes more sense than just the fact that the two schools are about an hour apart.

Same recruiting pool, Napier already has relationships with top targets in the region. Much of the same donor base, same sponsors, etc. If O is canned, it’s the perfect spot for someone like Napier to step in and not have to worry about the off the field shite that comes with being a HC in the SEC.

He should absolutely be fired for finishing behind A&M.

You sure? From where I’m sitting, as an LSU fan, we sure as frick look EXACTLY like Auburn after Chizik’s Natty this season. Not to mention, we hired a DL coach that was an epic failure at his previous stop as a HC. And you think we wouldn’t hire one of the hottest up and comers out there? The guy who has turned down 3 power 5 offers in 2 seasons and has ULL ranked in the top 25 at 9-1 for the first time in program history? Man, good thing you’re not the AD. You’re a fricking moron.

I’ve always wondered if the Houston Nutt thing was Nick laying the groundwork for his return to LSU in case he didn’t like the NFL.

Kind of tin foil hat, but if you buy the prevailing wisdom of Nutt being someone who could win with other people’s players and then run out of steam when he had to recruit his own...

Mix that with a person so torn and prone to second thoughts about staying/going not only at Miami, but LSU and even Michigan State and it kind of adds up.

No doubt he likes where he is at and is being patient for the best opportunity.

I think that’s the opposite. I think taking jobs that set you up for failure are the ones that make your star burn out. If he stays at ULL for five more years, and turns them into a perennial contender, than the offers will keep rolling in. Easier to do it there than a second tier SEC school.

LSU wouldn’t have fired Nutt after two seasons so Bama still would have hired him in that scenario but I get what you are saying. It was his fall back. I don’t think it’s outside the possibility that Nutt wins a National Championship with the ‘06 and ‘07 teams. The talent in those teams were ridiculous.

But, you hired a career position coach who was a miserable failure the one previous time he was a full-time, non-interim head coach at a college program. And, that same coach is firing coaches off his staff now to save his arse.

Coach O will only be as good as his coord hires, but don't act like he is some pos. He assembled the greatest team ever. He coached the #6 in the country the year before that. He is an elite recruiter, works 24-7, and is willing to make changes when things aren't working. I am VERY glad we hired him instead of Herman or Jimbo.

Per some of our people, he's legitimately committed to positioning himself for the Bama job

Dabo will have the biggest say in that decision

Somebody from LSU Admin probably leaked it to him that Ed's on thin ice.

The only way Ed's on thin ice is possibly due to Ed being more culpable on the Title IX violations than we know about. This season, given the number of circumstances and the way LSU finished this year Ed gets a pass. However if you separate the Title IX stuff from the season and if the Title IX stuff is worse than we know it could be bad for Ed.

Lol. I guess you've forgotten LSU's last coaching search already?

Because Napier is less than an hour away from BR. He's one of the hottest coaches in the country going on 2 seasons. And, if things stay pat I figure once Saban retires Kiffin, Sark, Cristobal, and possibly even Kirby Smart are likely to be the next head coach at Bama before Napier.

If Kiffin replaced Saban after he retires, the bama offense would be insane with the talent you guys attract. However defense would be a concern.

Not prestigious enough for the Sips in Austin. Napier would be an ideal fit, but he doesn't have the cache of a Meyer.

So now we're cool with 3rd in the west? I guess we'll see who comes back for A&M, but 4 offensive lineman were seniors and so was their qb.

We aint losing to the faggies next year. This was their year when everything was in place for them to make a run like LSU last year. This was their ceiling.
