Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.
He has himself positioned very well at UL...both professionally and personally. He can afford to be very picky as he continues to build on his resume. Certainly a chance he goes next year, but would not surprise me one bit that he stays another 2-3 years.
Yes. We are happy to benefit from this.

I think it had more to do with Saban and Nutt both having Jimmy Sexton as an agent.

And, if things stay pat I figure once Saban retires Kiffin, Sark, Cristobal, and possibly even Kirby Smart are likely to be the next head coach at Bama before Napier.

Depending on when Saban retires, some of those coaches you listed may have better situations than trying to be the guy to follow-up Saban. Smart might finally get UGA over the hump and win a national title, Cristobal already has two PAC-12 conference titles at Oregon, and Kiffin is TBD on if he can sustain a winning program long term. Becoming a head coach again is probably an aspiration for Sark, but will he wait another 5 years for the Bama job?

Yes, Saban has positioned Bama as one of the best situations in college football now, but don't forget the four coaches hired before he arrived were pretty mediocre. Bama's head coaching hires are typically feast or famine, and they don't have the best track record of hitting multiple head coaching home run hires in a row since the Bryant days.

Chris Landry said on his podcast that he spoke to Napier and Napier told him he was really disappointed that he wasn’t offered the South Carolina job. It was a pseudo “dream job” for him.

Napier is being picky but he is interested in mid tier SEC jobs provided the admin is what he is looking for. I don’t know if UT fits that bill or not.

ET: he also said Napier turned down Auburn bc he didn’t know who his boss was going to be in the short term, if that tells you anything about what’s going on in their admin.

If Kiffin replaced Saban after he retires, the bama offense would be insane with the talent you guys attract.

I don't agree. The talent goes there because of Saban. When he leaves the playing field is level.

You guys are all missing the point. Napier will have Louisiana in a NY6 next year and CFP within 3 years. He’s building a dynasty here on the Bayou vermilion.

But, you hired a career position coach who was a miserable failure the one previous time he was a full-time, non-interim head coach at a college program. And, that same coach is firing coaches off his staff now to save his arse.

The only way Ed's on thin ice is possibly due to Ed being more culpable on the Title IX violations than we know about. This season, given the number of circumstances and the way LSU finished this year Ed gets a pass. However if you separate the Title IX stuff from the season and if the Title IX stuff is worse than we know it could be bad for Ed.

Truth. Finishing up with wins over UF and Ole Miss plus a nice recruiting class (albeit few OL), plus making a big change to fix the defense, bought O some breathing room.

Not prestigious enough for the Sips in Austin. Napier would be an ideal fit, but he doesn't have the cache of a Meyer.

If the reports of Napier turning down Auburn and the reasons area true, then he's not going to want to play politician in Austin at that job.

Maybe a NY6 if the stars line up perfectly. Playoff, not, unless an expansion is on the way. G5s aren't allowed playoff slots currently.

Y’all are straight special Ed! How many undefeated seasons does billy have? How many trophies does billy have? But y’all got stars in your eyes because a guy went 9-1 in the sun belt conference?! GTFO!

Exactly. And SC admin did not have what he is looking for. Or Moo St, or Auburn, for that matter. Not to say some other 'mid-level' P5 won't have it, but I think that chance is looking slimmer and slimmer. He is very set where he is now, and will be very picky if he leaves.

Why would Landry lie about talking to Napier?

Napier has been “connected” to South Carolina gig for years - that was common knowledge. It makes sense that he wanted that job.

IMO Napier will take a job that checks all the blocks for him. He does have a shortlist of programs that he would love to coach at. South Carolina, UNC, NC State and Tennessee are on that list.

Programs like Auburn, UGA, FSU, Va Tech and LSU will always be jobs that Napier will take if offered. They may not be in the region he wants to get back to, but they are too good of jobs to pass up. Especially if the administration is willing to do what Napier seems as essential commitments to winning.

Beats me - but if you’re a journalist and you lie about speaking to someone, you would be sabotaging your career. No reason not to believe Landry in this instance. He said verbatim that he talked to Napier and that Napier was heartbroken not getting the USCe job.
