A PS5 gaming console was at the center of a violent brawl at a Walmart in Charlotte, North Carolina as customers were doing their holiday shopping.

The incident went down on December 13, less than two weeks before Christmas, and the Walmart appeared to be packed with shoppers.

And people who want one will eventually get one.

No use for Sony and Microsoft to buy excess capacity just so all demand can be satisfied at once.

If they didn't "need" to align the releases schedules with the Christmas season it wouldn't be near the issue.

The problem stems from the online orders. Resellers used purchase bots to snatch them all up before regular people could get and order in.

As an example, GameStop would say they were putting them up to buy at 10am. By 10:01 they'd all be gone. So unless you were lightning fast at typing in your card and shipping info you got jack shite.

The problem is the community stomping each other in retail stores. Not availability.

I got my kids on PS5 and XBOX Series X on release day. Is knowing where to look (and when) white privilege?

Yes, bots were probably responsible for half the preorders. I used the backdoor link on Amazon that let you add it to the cart without going to the product page first (for both systems.) People were PISSED when the dog page showed up before the product page. Now keep in mind Amazon put their PS5 up a few hours after the others. I spent over an hour battling BB and Target's sites to get through the checkout process so I gave 0 fricks about the whining from those who didn't know where to look.

... because other companies make the peices and parts and theres a supply bottleneck on the new generation of graphics cards and the chips used to make them.

That happens with every single new generation of a gaming system? Boy, those folks are slow learners.

Looks like a fair distribution method to me.

Two enter. One gets a PS5. Other goes to sleep in Walmart.
