Finns are generally nice people.

Imagine, though, going into a bar full of gritty Welsh coal miners and being about to shoot the bull with them in their language. You'd get free ale all day.

My granddad was born in Finland. As his health declined, all he would speak was Finnish. No one had a clue what he was saying, but it sounded cool.

Another cool thing about Finnish is it’s not an Indo-European language.

Developed separately, Finno-Urgic is the term I believe. Only a few languages in that family, Finnish, Estonian, and maybe a couple others.

I love to speak what little I know with my grandma and grandpa.

If you want a Nordic language, Learn Norwegian Bokmål. You'll get Danish for free, and you'll be able to understand a lot of Swedish and some Icelandic. You also have a head start on West Germanic languages like German & Dutch.

I have Finnish friends and the language is a nightmare, avoid unless you're a Finn or really want to live there. Even then, they will speak to you in English (if you can even get them to speak since they are anti-social ).

The best language to learn is the one YOU are most interested in though. What do YOU want to invest hundreds to thousands of hours in?

Why would anyone want to learn Welsh? Both my in-laws are from Wales and only my MIL speaks it. It's a fricking wild language.

From what I understand, there has been a resurgence in the Welsh language. More and more younger people are learning the language FWIW.

Neither

Finnish is a muthafricka to start with.

Welsh, naw, not unless I lived in western Wales.

Spanish or Mandarin would be the most practical unless you are in a specific industry or had familial ties to some other language.

I used to travel to Swansea for work. When I would go to the pubs, they would all speak Welsh until the figured out that I wasn't British. It was a really cool language to hear.

I'd go for Finnish. They may have ancient texts that could be really amazing to read. Supposedly had top tier wizard/sorcery stuff. There was apparently great battle between the frisians and finns. So I think I'd go with Finnish based off the amount of interesting history I know about each, which in fairness is about nil for Wales.

I like Duolingo. Seems pretty easy to use and learn with.

A very wise man from Wales once told me, "Yngyddy 'n canu y Eisteddfel nae Llangoehth." Not sure it means anything, but that's what he said.

Icelandic:

So you can read the Sagas in their original language

So you can impress folks from the rest of Scandinavia whose
languages are based on Icelandic

So you can visit Iceland for the volcanoes, the midnight sun, the countless numbers of waterfalls, and the black sand beaches (as well as very nice people).
