Pac 12 has decided Utah will play Washington this weekend. A game with BYU never would have happened.

If they scheduled the game with BYU (as per Pac 12 rules is allowed), then the Utah game never would have been an option.

So what? BYU's entire issue with the "offer" was that they were a backup game for Washington. They wanted a guarantee the game would be played and all Washington and the Pac 12 would offer is they could play IF there wasn't another Pac 12 team available.

Wrong. The deal was that if a Pac 12 team became available Washington would play them instead. It wasn't a real offer. It was a we'll only play you if nobody else in the Pac can play us deal.

He'd die like Goose. Gotta have the bad boy who breaks all the rules lose his teetotaler best friend who goes to church every Sunday so he can learn his lesson about needing to follow the rules.

I don't know about you fellas, but I'd like to see more haphazard, fly by the seat of your pants scheduling in the future. Seems a lot more fun than arranging things 15 years out.

Too bad, BYU would have won.

PAC 12 is horrible.

False, Pac 12 rules state that if another conf team becomes available for a game by Thursday of game week, the non-conf matchup has to be canceled in favor of a conf game.

I've been told forever that it wasn't very feasible to schedule games too soon in the future yet here we see teams doing it on the fly in a covid year, so glad to see that was a load of baloney. Start scheduling 1-2 years in advance instead of so far in the future and then cry when your opponent ends up being trash and then going "they were good when we scheduled them!" I'm sick and tired of hearing that

The only reason its been possible this year is b/c nearly every single OOC game was canceled.

It normally is pretty much impossible b/c every has already set their schedules 10 years down the line. Nobody is going to decide to cancel all their future games just so they can try to do a mad dash to set things up a year out just b/c schools had to do it in a pandemic season.

Well yeah, but it would be fun. I like a little uncertainty and chaos.

They wouldn't have to cancel games, all they'd have to do is keep the games that are already scheduled and stop scheduling so far out in the meantime and eventually teams would get to the point somewhere down the road in a decade or so where they don't have any games scheduled beyond a year or two and then we can go from there.

So you want every school to just promise they'll stop setting up future games for the next 10-15 years?

How would this work for schools that do a 2-1 deal? Would they no longer be allowed to do that? What about long term OOC rivals? Would South Carolina/Clemson have to be set up on a year by year basis?
