Smart they'll actually utilize that patio that Rum House just didn't for whatever reason

I would wait awhile before opening until things get better
The property is what they really wanted
Opening a restaurant right now is not the ideal thing to do

well since there's no concept yet, I'm guessing it'll be a bit before they open
I'd say for the most part though, dining out in BR is back to pretty close to normal levels.

I used to watch Bosom Buddies when I was little. I'm glad Tom Hanks helped him out with roles here and there too.
Good luck to him.

I’ve been gone from BR for a long time now but did Rum House close because of coronavirus or before?
That place was slammed 6 years ago.

That place was slammed 1 year ago... They closed in May. Pretty sure they cited Caronavirus, but I highly doubt that was the reason. Not sure what was, but I feel like there has to be a story behind it.

it was circling the drain pre corona, but that just expedited the ending.
I think superior on highland was the beginning of their end.

The story is that the drinks were good but the food there SUCKED. I mean it was really bad. I tried several times because I wanted to love the place. But I couldn't justify the prices for the crap they were throwing on a plate. I hate it too because it is a cool space.

Just like overflow from Olive or Twist waits helped them in business in the end as well (it used to go both ways when rum house was actually busy). The food was always average and the lunch crowds really dropped off pre corona considering the hospital and how busy Perkins is in that area.

it was weird, they just seemed content to die a slow death and not try to compete. Hell, their one good night, taco tuesday, actually got worse.

I'm not even sure this is true. Their margs and cocktails kinda sucked
it was a solid patio to drink on though, pretty much the only thing it had going for it at the end

Assuming you risked your life to make a left turn into the place, the parking sucked.

Can't speak for the margs, but the Painkillers were good. Only went during Happy Hour when they were $5.

I think so too. Rum House was a spot you could grab a drink and eat decent food in a relatively fun atmosphere...until Superior opened a better version literally right down Kenilworth Hwy. from them.

I wasn't a fan of their normal food but I really liked their brunch.

Same for me. I had just tried their brunch just before covid. I'm so sad now.

I wasn't a fan of the tacos because they were always cold as if the "taco building station" in the back must have been straight up Subway-style just sitting in containers.. BUT I always found the regular food plates and sandwiches to be good.
The nachos were some of the better ones in town.
I never went to Rum House, though, so I'm excited for this. Scalafini has done a good job at Portabello's Bocage (its basically Ruffinos) so I'm down for something closer to home.

Was just coming to say this. Tacos always looked so good and then would arrive to the table cold. A real turn off.
The brunch though was awesome.

How many places is Sclafani involved in?
Still with Phil's and Portabello's? Anything with Ruffino's?
Every article about restaurants in the BR Business Report seems to reference him or Chad Hughes.
