How did that work out for them and Clevinger. They knew(as did the 29 other teams) that he was damaged goods and they gave away 3 top prospects for him and BOOM, 3 starts in he needs Tommy John.

So because it didn't work, it was stupid?

It's nice to be armed with hindsight, huh?

There is a difference in being aggressive and being stupid. The Padres were the latter, I really wouldn't be using them as an example to make your point.

Not sure why I got a downvote, but if this is true, there’s no way we should pursue him. Unless “largest” refers to AAV instead of total money, and he’s willing to sign a short-term deal, but I doubt that’s the case.

This market sucks so far if signing a guy to a huge deal at a position of non-need is what we’ve determined is one of the only ways to get better. Unless they think he’s so good behind the plate that working with him help our young pitchers develop even more and faster.

Come July, when he is the 5th starter behind Fried, Morton, Soroka, and Anderson

I consider myself healthily skeptical more than cynical, but it seems a lot a Braves fans think Soroka is just gonna stroll on in and settle right back into that #1 spot. Achilles injuries are no joke and will affect his body in much more ways than just his lower leg. I’ve said this since he was hurt that I don’t expect him to be back in full form until ‘22. Anything he gives us in ‘21 is lagniappe, but we shouldn’t count on it.

Also, I’m not sold on Anderson being ready to be a top of the rotation guy just yet. People are way too quick to dismiss just how less stressful throwing in front of zero fans was last year. There’s no guarantee he won’t be affected by 30k screaming fans, even at home. Nobody wants to acknowledge the exhibition-y feel to every game last year, even in the playoffs. Some dudes will actually thrive on the crowds and elevate their games. Others will get nervous and shite on themselves. We’ll see how Anderson does.

Everyone in the SD org.knew about his elbow. Either they ignored the advanced medicals or the advanced medicals weren't done at all. Either way, they are both firable offenses and just blatant ignorance on the part of the Padres.

There is a reason that the other 29 teams said "no, thanks."

Just take the "L" here and move on. Would we all like to see the Braves do a little more? Sure. But using Clevinger/SD as a case study is a losing proposition.

And this OS has been pretty quiet so far, for everyone.

Adam Wainwright had the exact same injury on the same foot at 36 and was back just fine the next season. And he had the same surgeon as Soroka. Soroka is also 14 years younger than AW was. He'll be fine.

If you ain't convinced about Ian, then you never will be. I don't know what to tell you.

@JonHeyman
Braves have kicked tires on Orioles star Trey Mancini. Nothing serious yet, but Braves need offense. Could be tough to trade for O’s though.

Is he a guy that can maybe play 3rd or corner outfield? Not entirely familiar with him defensively.

Saw something about this the other day. The orioles apparently don't want to pay him this year and asked him to defer his salary while still arb eligible. It would just be a question of where he is at health/conditioning wise

It’s always tough being a Braves fan.

We brag about cheap deals for Ozzie and Acuna but we do nothing with the savings. We are cheap.

Just sucks watching: Mets, nationals, Phillies, dodgers, Padres and now cardinals (arenado) continue to add pieces and get better.

Braves big moves this off-season:

Panda (wtf), smyly, morton (ageless wonder)

We continue to hold onto prospects until they are no longer valuable.

So glad AA and Liberty Media are out here penny-pinching. Meanwhile, the defending champions that eliminated us after coming back from 3-1 down just added another Cy Young award winner.

Cool.

It was maddening at the time when AA didn't go get a starter at the deadline last year. As it turns out, we were one starting pitcher away from winning the World Series.

AA is out here resting on his laurels this offseason while the Dodgers, Padres, and Mets just made sure our window to win a World Series just slammed shut.

frick AA. Dude is still too scared to make any meaningful trades after his Syndergaard for Dickey blunder in Toronto.
