Marking yourself safe on Facebook... the height of narcissism

Is marking yourself safe on Facebook the height of narcissism? I just feel like the people who need to know you are safe are usually much easier to contact than through Facebook.
During a storm my parents will call, text, or drive by. Even if I were states away I feel like the last thing my parents or any loved ones are going to do is check my Facebook to see if I marked myself safe.
Thought?

Reason 1 of a billion why Facebook/social media sucks.

Typically it’s the type of people that I would prefer were not safe.

I really don’t give 2 shites if someone is safe or not

Almost as bad as posting a passive aggressive post on Tiger Droppings, instead of posting it on Facebook for Mike to see himself. Here's your attention though.

I haven’t marked myself safe to see if someone is going to show up to check on me.

The ones that don't even live in the area are the worst.
Like I was really worried for you Dave in Biloxi during Delta.

Facebook is the height of narcissism

Marking yourself "safe" has the same goal as all the idiots who post endless selfies everyday. They are people with low self esteem and are fishing for compliments, so that they can feel better about themselves.
Bill Engvall had a whole routine about "Here's your sign", implying stupid people should carry a sign letting everyone know up front. This is just an extension of that.

These parodies do amuse me.

Social media is a blight on civilization.
95% of the bullshite, turmoil and division in this country is a result of social media.

I would just keep mine as DGAF about you or your friends, family, political views, or anything else.
If I was FB.
If I was FB.

On the narcissist scale It is right up there with assuming that anything that isn’t designed for your own specific wants is the height of narcissism
Plenty of situations I could see it’s a nice quick reference for folks you may not be super close with or if you have a fair number of folks curious and limited time/focus/charge. If there was a sudden event that hit your area it might be nice to check 30 people off the list for needing check ins
I’ve never personally used it but see how it could help someone else in or in a situation I’ve not yet been in since it started

The folks I know who have don’t it said the reason they did was because they got tired of people texting them.

Oh, that reminds me to tell all of the OT that I am safe from everything except possibly an STD or crabs....

Facebook... the height of narcissism
Here I fixed it for you, ever wonder why they have picture filters ?
So these old arse 50 yr old women can get a glamour shot for free, post it, then wait around for all their friends to tell them how beautiful they are.

Facebook is a product of anti-social weirdos trying to find a loophole to being social.
