The calculus thread got me thinking about what math I have used in my life since undergrad. Since I am not in a STEM field I have used calculus VERY rarely, maybe 3-4 times with acoustics but I could have arrived at a value good enough for my purposes by eyeballing the data.
I use geometry/trig fairly often and understanding logarithms occasionally comes in handy. I also use basic algebra a lot but I think everyone does even if they don't see their thought process as algebra. The understanding of stats comes in handy too.
Curious what math other people use regularly.
Geometry / trig / algebra, probability.
I sort of try and keep up with math to some sense. I'm working through Road to Reality : A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe by Roger Penrose right now. Helps keep my problem solving skills on point.

Hmm, I don’t use much math regularly, but I do use a ton of logical expressions, which is somewhat related to math, I suppose.

I use stats and algebra daily, unfortunately
I didn't go into engineering because I hate math and wanted to avoid it, but now I do math just as much as all the engineers

Only basic math while measuring and cutting items, fabricating a few things, and perhaps determining how much sod is needed for a circle area, etc. but, with Siri available to assist, I don’t have to use math nearly as much as 10 years or so ago. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

I have an engineering degree, working in a technical field. I haven't used calculus directly in 10 years. Now, the modeling software and such that I use utilities calculus. I have to have the understanding to be able to interpret when results are possibly incorrect. But I haven't actually done an integral or derivative myself.

I do land surveying in construction. My go to formula is law of cosines and using calculus in determining volumes for odd shapes of concrete. My equipment will calculate it for me but I don't trust it so I hand check the work.

I don't use calculus ever. That accelerated class in high school was a waste.

Mathcad Prime is a life changer. It’s literally the Rosetta Stone. If I had had this in school I would have been unstoppable.

Trig, basic geometry, a little bit of algebra and occasionally calculus but not often.

Ever since I stopped using cash, none. If I need any math type issues, I engage an expert. frick math.

Statistics and percentages mostly now. when I used to work construction as a pipefitter I used trigonometry a shite load which was surprisingly useful for running pipelines. If I had actually finished my engineering degree I'm sure this would be a different conversation
