Let’s not betray Jrue Holiday by trading for punk arse Chris Paul.

What year is it? You are delusional if you think we would have to give up Lonzo AND Jrue for this version of CP3 with his current salary.
We could afford CP3, Jrue, BI and Zion if we wanted to. Lonzo would be moved out with a pick attched. Maybe some rotation players get shuffled around too. That would be it.
The Thunder want to move him and others so they can properly tank and rebuild. They don't want to make the playoffs next year and they dont want to pay that salary while they're tanking.

Note: I would not do this trade because I think we could get more in return for Jrue. But if you are someone who REALLY wants CP3, I think there is a framework of CP3 coming to us, Jrue going to Philadelphia, and Horford+draft picks going to OKC that could work. Something like:
Why we do it: We lose Jrue and NAW but get back CP3 and what could be a very good future first if Brand continues to screw things up in Philadelphia. JJ joins the starting lineup and Lonzo runs the bench unit instead of Frank/NAW. Get a big with the MLE and have CP3/JJ/BI/Zion/MLE C with Lonzo/Frank/Hart/Melli/Hayes as some of your rotation guys. That’s a roster that may be better than Portland for the 8 seed and add another first rounder for trades down the line.
Why Philly does it: They get out of Horford’s contract and get maybe the best guy available this offseason. They give up a lot down the road but don’t lose anything that helps them win now like Thybulle or upcoming picks they can use for cheap depth. They can talk themselves into Simmons/Richardson/Jrue/Harris/Embiid with a new coach being a Finals contender. They are betting on themselves that those future picks will be late first rounders. And if they aren’t, Brand won’t be around anyway. Plus I think Philly is desperate and Brand has a history of poor decisions.
Why OKC does it: They get what could be a very good future first, two second round picks, and last year’s #17 pick who happens to be the cousin of their most important player moving forward.

OKC would want a lot more than a 5 years out protected first for taking on 3 years of Horford.

The only way you’re landing CP3 is by giving up Jrue, the salaries dictate that. I think a lot of teams would love to have him, but that salary makes it too difficult.

While I tend to agree with you in terms of CP3’s value as a player, I think his return will be less than it theoretically “should” be because his massive salary makes constructing a trade for him really difficult. Only decent-to-good teams will want him (likely teams operating over the cap), but he requires the other team to send back around $40M in salary. Most high salary players on decent-to-good teams are productive players (otherwise they would be bad teams), so that team is stuck sending out a good player plus some which isn’t palatable for that team. Philly is one of the few good teams with a bad player on a huge deal. There aren’t many out there.
Another popular CP3 trade idea involves Bledsoe+Hill+Ilyasova and a couple of Milwaukee first round picks, which I don’t think is substantially better for OKC than the above trade.
A lot of the bubble teams don’t need point guards.
Bucks: Could use CP3
Raptors: Lowry
Celtics: Kemba
Pacers: Brogdon
Heat: Dragic
Philly: Simmons
Nets: Kyrie
Magic: Could maybe use CP3
Wizards: Getting Wall back
Lakers: Can’t make salaries work
Clippers: Probably not going to happen
Nuggets: Could use CP3 but aren’t trading Jokic or Murray, so would have to send out Harris+Barton and it would still be difficult to match salaries
Rockets: Obviously CP3 is not going back there
Jazz: Conley
Mavs: Doncic
Blazers: Lillard
Grizzlies: Ja
Suns: Would need to be Rubio+Oubre+about $9M on top of that
Spurs: Probably not going to happen
Kings: Fox
Point is when there are not a lot of trades out there, the value is less than it seems.

Is because this site can be really stupid sometimes. You said nothing wrong and provided truth. Go to Pelicans report or Reddit/Pelicans were you don't have to be downvoted by idiots on this site.

Everyone knows where I stand on my beloved Chrissy, and this would be insane for Zion and make us an instant playoff team but...
I wouldn't want to give up much of any assets for 1 or maybe 2 years of Chris Paul.
Also, how would we make the salaries match up, Lonzo, Miller, Redick get it done?

im straight up showing all of you that if we trade for CP3 at 42 million we would HAVE to include Jrue @ 26 million

Salaries are not enough. You would also have to add in Hayes, Melli, Hart, or NAW. Plus OKC is probably not interested in Redick, Miller, or even Lonzo with one year left before he gets a bigger contract. You would have to include draft picks.

The only realistic way to get Paul is to send out Jrue. Otherwise you would have to start sending out cost controlled assets (guys on rookie deals), and I don’t think you want to do that as a rebuilding team.

Here's a 4 teamer I came up with involving the Knicks and Warriors:
You would try your best to get OKC to take 8 or 13 instead of 2, but they are sending out a hot name and taking on Wiggins. Getting #2 is how they win the press conference now that they're blowing up a mid tier playoff team.
Pels give up Jrue and Lonzo, but you can draft Kira Lewis Jr and Aaron Nesmith, you get your PG of the future and a long term JJ replacement, plus the Minnesota pick to add to the war chest.
CP3 is a better Win Now player than Jrue (I love Jrue but he's never dragged a team to the playoffs) and a better mentor for Zion and Ingram. I do think you could probably find better 2K points value for sending out both Jrue and Lonzo, but I think a move like this really helps the team move forward and take the next step.

So a few things. There’s a lot of sense to this trade for sure.
However:
I don’t see the Knicks willingly giving up 8 for what amounts to shedding Portis and getting Ball. It’s a MAYBE. This is a weak draft and I could see them going for the name. But they are under new leadership so who knows.
Next, does OKC want to take on that much salary? They assuredly want to shed salary and go cheap. Would those moves keep them in the tax?
Can the Knicks trade Portis and then the team that acquires him opt out?

If we were to land Chris Paul we would have to first and foremost do right by Jrue. With that being said the only team in the West I would feel comfortable sending him to is Golden State.
CP3 still brings value to the floor but that contract is still ridiculous. I don’t see the market being as Bullish as the 7 teams interested narrative.
I’m sure Griff has a plan and I’m anxious to see how this all unfolds. And if CP3 is a Pelican when the dust settles, consider me onboard.
