Tamir Rice has an Airsoft gun he was pointing at people. Whoever called out the cops told them it was a real gun. IIRC, he had obliterated the markings on it that made people know it was a replica.
Kyle? Was using the rifle for defense when three assholes attacked him with varying weapons ranging from a brick to a handgun. Two dead, one disarmed, and attempted to turn himself over to law enforcement.

In their defense, when prosecutors literally say they will drop any charges brought against rioters, it kind of takes the wind out of your sails. Especially when you are getting knocked out with bricks and having molotov cocktails thrown on you.

Likewise, the statement about Rittenhouse lacks any mention of self-defense or that his presence was known and approved of by the police because he and his group were assisting the police with essentially riot control.
