re: After watching numerous fight videos lately, I’m convinced that 99% of men can’t fight.

I’m at about 20 years also. One big thing with my dad growing up was learning how to fight and protect myself. I could handle most people who have never really fought much but I’d be fricked if I ran into someone who has been training.

there are so many amateur ufc fighters these days. it's never been easier to get absolutely fricked up by some 150 lb manlet.

everybody looks stupid their first several because of the adrenaline. youre just trying to inflict as much damage as quickly as possible so youre throwing crazy looking punches left and right. once youve been in more than a few you are more calm and pick your shots...like everything else it comes with experience

Fighting is trashy and just another way to show your toxic masculinity.

It's really hard to actually implement all those skills IRL without more training than most people are able or willing to undergo. If you're not a professional fighter your spastic self is probably going to get laughed at on a WSHH video.

Meh. Not really.
But I've always used size and location to my advantage.

That’s why people are wrong when they say martial arts like Taekwondo are useless in a street fight. Yes, there are better disciplines for street fighting. But the reality is that anyone trained in any fighting style has a huge advantage over the overwhelming majority of people in a street fight because most people are untrained at any level. Rarely does a street fight involve two opponents trained in fighting. So even someone highly skilled in a “useless” martial art will pick apart an untrained fighter of similar size.

I don’t understand this. I carry a glock everywhere and I’ve often thought about how I would react in different situations. Not many lead me to pulling it and especially a fist fight!
I was raised that if you have to point your gun at somebody then you better squeeze the trigger because there is no excuse for doing so unless you thought you was going to not make it out alive.

Yes. You can win a lot of fights simply by not hesitating to throw a punch.
Fighting is trashy, though. Use your words like an adult if possible.

Same. I boxed and wrestled for over a decade, and easily over a hundred street fights by the time I left high school, maybe 200.
Throughout middle and high school, I was one of like 5 white students, so early on the black and Hispanic kids thought they could frick with me. That lasted for a couple months until I earned their respect. I consider those early months the only necessary fist fights I ever had. After that, I got in fights simply because I enjoyed the notoriety and the adrenaline rush was addictive.
Whenever a new kid would come to our school, the other kids would always pressure him to "try that white boy", knowing I wouldn't back down and this dude was about to get chin checked.
I was 19 when I had my last actual fight. I was underage drinking at a local hotspot near UT campus when a big wrestler from Carson Newman knocked my grossly undersized roommate to the ground and started kicking him. I went after him like a rabid pit bull, landing several head shots before grabbing him by his hoodie and throwing him through a window onto the street.
I go out to finish him off, and I see him on the ground, covered in blood, unconscious. I honestly thought I killed him, scariest moment of my life. Haven't raised my fists since.

Fighting is trashy. It is almost like we have evolved past being neanderthals.

Kids these days don’t learn to fight because they prefer places like Chipotle over Sonic

If all you can do is punch, you’d be in trouble when you come across someone who knows how to really fight.

Well, not really but we have recently started taking taekwondo as a family. Mostly for the kid (self discipline and confidence) but we are enjoying it so far.
I wrestled in High School and considering where I ended up going to school was one of the smartest things I ever did. It teaches you about balance and leverage and those things never really leave you. Even 30+ years later, the muscle memory is still there for certain moves/techniques.
But on the flip side, the most important "martial art" you can learn is verbal judo. If you are smart and prepared you can deescalate most encounters.

Man, this thread is almost as good as asking what did you run in the 40. So many humble 45-1 retired bruisers on here.

Was never great at the 40, but once ran a mile in 5:39, and did it untrained. Just went out and did it. It about killed me, but that was my time....

You guys are a pain in the arse on the jiu jitsu/judo mats. And yes I mean that as a big compliment lol. Wrestlers mentality is a very real thing. Our sparing is more “fun” and laid back, where the wrestlers are trying to freaking kill each other. But of course the OT will lay dem hands on any big wrestlers ya hurd.

In answering the question of, "Why do you always have a gun on you?"
"Because I'm too young to die and too old to get my arse whipped."

Fighting is very technical. Lot of dudes who think they're "hard" get dropped by private school kids who took kickboxing, wrestling, and jiu jitsu classes when they were young.
