Duck hunting and wade fishing for speckled trout. There is nothing like watching the sun come up in the water or in the blind.

Spending time with my son. He’s 14 and loves hunting and fishing.

We don’t get to do anywhere as much as we would both want but get to do a good bit.

Couple of weeks ago we kayaked the ghost river section of the Wolf River and fished.

Other than hunting and fishing I do a lot of shooting and reloading.

I like to build stuff as well from woodworking to rifles and pistols fishing rods and tying flies.

I actually have too many hobbies.

Deer hunting ,love it.At one time it was beagles and rabbit hunting but when timber companies started leasing all their land really had no where to go.I still miss it.

Turkey still heads my list probably. Don’t hate them like I used to though. A few Slams later and knowing their population is on the decline; I’ve softened up a bit. Merriams are really the most fun anyway. Once I got close to triple digits the harvests seemed less meaningful.

Lately, it’s been about checking off Western big game. Lately a mature mule deer or antelope really gets the blood flowing. Not sure if it’s the landscape or the animal. Either way, just feels right.

The moment I look forward to the most is getting everything squared away in my kayak and starting to glide to my first fishing spot. My focus changes from making sure things are tied down, stowing things, etc to really looking at the lake. Usually, the sun has just barely started to peek above the horizon. Animals on land and in the water are on the move and I’m a silent witness to it all.

Hunted hard for many years. Killed a bunch of animals. I still enjoy bass fishing. But it's no biggie if I don't get up for it anymore. Nowadays, all my kids are gone. That used to be my drive for a lot of hunting and fishing. Recently my wife and I have gotten into off roading and primitive camping. Bought a Jeep and we love being in the mountains and finding new places to hike and camp! Nothing like waking up in a tent, on a mountain or next to river! So I guess just being in the wild is my passion now!!! The more remote the better!

Specklebelly hunting. Having a conversation and getting birds to light 20 yards from you is like damn crack to me. Sweetest sound ever.

Crisp, cool early fall morning. The sun just starting to come up. Light fog on the water. Nothing but the sounds of birds, insects, and bass blowing up on topwater.

Turkey. And my son says he wants to try next year. He'll be 11 and I'm super pumped about trying with him. If I can get him to wake up and not want to stay and play with the other boys at the camp.

Just being out there.

Over the past couple of years I've switched from being an every day deer hunting to squirrel hunting most weekend. I get to see more wildlife in general and cover a lot of ground. It's also made me a better deer hunter when I do go.

Literally anything I can do to get out there.

Something with the dog (retrievers & spaniel), a portable hammock, cooking outside, crabbing, hiking, boating, clays, mountains, beach, etc...

We grew up summers in a modest non-airconditioned place on Lake Michigan across from Chicago and one felt outdoors even in bed. Ever since then I prefer being outside.

Nowadays I travel a lot for work so I pack a travel hammock if I know I'm near something cool or arrange a visit to a friend's cabin or something. I just spent a few days in Grand Marais on the north side of Lake Superior. It was amazing.

I also skipped work today to shoot some wobble with a buddy near NOLA. What a great way to blow off some steam after a shitty week.

Yeah, calling a bunch from the stratosphere to feet down is cool, timber or not.

I've been fortunate to upland hunt in the midwest, duck hunt a lot of places along the flyway, fly fish the white river, fish offshore, fish for bass, reds, and specs, and deer hunt some really good areas in my life.

Sitting in a deer stand in early January, with the opportunity at a big buck is my favorite part of the outdoors, so far, but it's a close call. Honestly, just getting to unwind at the camp, cook something and the fellowship that goes along with it, is my favorite part.
