How would you rate each of these movies? I'll start

MOS: 5/10
BVS: 3/10

MOS had some promise to it, but ultimately it was a dour take on an otherwise historically bright, fun character with plenty of charm. Even without the killing of Zod this movie was full of fail. I really enjoyed the take of showing the destruction that comes when these super beings fight. I thought Cavill was very good in the role, and he could be perfect if the director were to open it up to the fun personality he should be. Overall the dreariness of the movie along with the flat color palette doomed it.

BVS: this was a mess. The only reason I give it more than 1 star is because of the special effects and fights. They were well done. Outside of that this was a complete pile of shite.

I remember these same sentiments being voiced here when both movies were released. Now all of a sudden you all are pining for Snyder's cut of Justice League? Is this due to your thinking that Snyder has made two good movies, or is it more that you are buying into the hype machine that Warner/DC is spinning on you with this? I am truly baffled by this one.

ETA: I have edited the title so that people don't think this was just a blast from the past topic. I have also highlighted the final few lines to make known the point of this thread.

I am curious though. Why are you afraid to address the topic?

A League of Their Own and Man of Steel in the same week?

Taken as a whole film, MoS has a better flow than BvS.
BvS has better individual scenes (Wonder Woman, Ma Kent rescue, battle with Doomsday). The Pa Kent death takes MoS way down in the scenes category. Way worse than the Martha/Martha scene.

As films:
MoS: 5/10
BvS: 4/10

Scenes:
MoS: 3/10
BvS: 8/10

I loved Man of Steel. It was the movie my adult self always wanted to see about Superman. The setting, visuals, and tone were fantastic. I can still love and watch Superman the Movie and love both. Who knew such a thing was possible.

8/10

BvS was a little less successful to me. The ultimate cut improved upon the story and pacing, but still lacked in excitement/action beyond the last act of the film. Needed some big Metallo vs Superman action sequences in the second act. Something a little more comic book like in its approach and feel.

I agree with most of what you state here (except for Martha/Martha, which is the worst).

This is my point. These movies have been mostly panned on these boards (and everywhere else really), yet for some reason it appears most here are excited for Snyder's JL cut. I'm trying to figure out what is it that gives anyone confidence that it would be any good given what he has released so far?

When you look at his entire catalog, he's really not that good of a director overall. Yeah people really liked 300, but that's a very flawed movie. Watchmen is very good, but it was a slow moving experience. Other than those two his movies have been not good.

Because people love Batman/Superman and want to see them done correctly, which in this current world, they haven't been. So people are hoping and praying for anything positive to come out. Hence the excitement for the Snyder cut. Which will inevitably suck because all 3 Superman films suck - the entire DCEU universe outside of WW and Shazam is pretty bad. And even WW is a stretch - her character is great, Gadot is great, but her film and appearances have been average. They just look good next to a poor rendition of Superman and a one note Batman.

You missed his best film in DotD which is a legit great horror film.

But that was Snyder making a straight film and not trying to "subvert expectations," or make something that "NO ONE WAS EXPECTING." There's so much of that going around now it's exhausting. And it usually sucks. And it's primarily why the reactions to MoS, BvS and JL are what they are. Snyder was trying to "subvert" expectations of superheroes, and he isn't nearly as talented at that as Nolan.

Agree completely. The Batman warehouse scene in BvS is the most comics-accurate, live-action, Batman scene ever put on film to this point.

Oh shite. Forgot about this one! Yeah that was a fun movie.

I tend to agree with everything you said. I can see the hopium bringing the excitement, but the end result will still be the same. It's unfortunate, because I love the DC universe and also want to see it represented on film as it is in the comics.

Criminally underrated Zack Snyder movie.

I fully suspect the Snyder cut to be a shite show, just like his other DC movies. But I'm interested to see how his version plays out as compared to Whedon's.

It's a Hail Mary to put out product. When the trailers allowed BvS to be told in 20 ish minutes. WB should have already left Snyder behind. They have good product. But it's either been Corona delayed. Or they are still trying to figure it out after unexpected success with the kitchen sink already thrown.

Bro, you act like this is some unique topic that has never been discussed here. Google it. There are probably dozens of threads you could read.

That being said, I just like comic book movies, and another interpretation will be interesting.

Obligatory "Dick Grayson is DC's best hero" mention.

I don't get it either. He made two shitty DC films that show a complete lack of understanding of the DC Universe. Those movies set your shared universe back a decade. As your films get on a hot streak, you back to the dry well, and for what?

Even if his revamped 'cut' is great most of the main players are out of the picture, and you have been heading in a different direction for 65 years. If the movie sucks, which it will, you have confused your audience and wasted a reported $60 Million plus any P&A money, and taken the wind out of the sails of the new direction which had produced some fun movies like Shazam.
