They were clearly trying to rush up and try to catch Marvel.

But in doing what they did, they broke the Marvel rule.
Avengers gave us established heroes, where each had carried his own film (even Hulk). We knew they were out there, and it was cool to see them together.
And it wasn't like all the earlier films were great, I mentioned the Hulk.

JL; hell, I know Green Lantern was a bad film. So what, he was out there. Bring him back into Justice League, make him play with the others. Maybe like Hulk, he works better in ensemble, as a big gun you can call in during emergencies. He'd have been 1-A (just behind revived Supes) in terms of firepower, and possibly he's been away in other parts of the galaxy so he's off everyone's radar. Wonder Woman's tale of the original fight showed A Green Lantern in that fight, we could have had the current one come in for this. It's clear they considered it some, since they showed that.

Both vastly underrated comic book movies. Different, more realistic takes on the genre and like one other poster said, very appealing to adult fans who grew up without film versions of these characters.

They shouldn’t have been following Marvels example to begin with but committed to the “Watchmen” style noir of what these characters would be if placed into our world.

Really Man of Steel's story needed a full overhaul. Change the Gattaca shite to the Krptonians faced with a choice of colonization or escape into the Phantom Zone chose/were forced to the later. Jor-El sent Kal out with the last means to recreate a projector and a the start of a way to bring people back.

You now have an alien vs alien story that ends in the banishment of Zod and Supes sticking to his always protect Earth, the little people won't kill rule. While at the end a lot of destruction still caused by the fight and a public banishment to a hell that still makes people say "hol'upamin".
