An Air Force utility helicopter took ground fire over Virginia on Monday that injured a crew member and forced an emergency landing, military and federal officials said.
The UH-1N Iroquois helicopter, assigned to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, was on a routine training mission east of Shenandoah National Park, soaring at about 1,000 feet during the incident, an Air Force spokesman said Wednesday.
It is unclear whether the crew member was struck directly by a bullet, was hit by debris or was injured in the commotion during the incident, which was first reported by McClatchy.
The FBI said it sent its Evidence Response Team to the airport after the incident and will investigate the shooting alongside Air Force investigators. Just wow

The gunfire injured a crew member and damaged the aircraft, the spokesman said, necessitating an emergency landing at nearby Manassas Regional Airport at 12:43 p.m. About 20 minutes earlier, the tower at the airport alerted airport officials that the aircraft was approaching with an “onboard emergency,” airport operations officer Richard Allabaugh told The Washington Post. The reports indicated that a member of the crew was bleeding from a hand wound, Allabaugh said.

Problematic name. This was a fight against white supremacy.
No arrests should be made, that person is a hero.

Maybe mission specific training as opposed to general competency training? I have no idea though.

Apparently, you don't understand the requirements to get a Purple Heart.
It will probably be the only SA fire that that the flight crew ever receives though.
