Hundreds of dead fish in Orange beach

This evening hundreds of dead fish started washing up on the beach. Anybody know if it’s a natural phenomenon, from the dead zone or whatever else it may be, or if some irresponsible charter captain started dumping all his unused bait overboard close to shore? I’m just trying to decide how upset we are supposed to be

Happens often when the temp gets this high. Maybe causes lack of oxygen or something but usually a week or two on a really hot summer will cause this to happen for whatever reason.

The Gulf of Mexico has the largest dead zone in the world every summer, fish kills along the gulf are normal this time of year.

The facility in Plaquemines is in Empire but there is another facility much closer to Orange Beach in Moss Point, Ms.

Omega Proteins in Moss Point. You haven’t lived until you’ve spent a few August days working across the street from that stinky place.

Knew a guy that worked at the pogie plant in Cameron, he said he never got used to the smell.

Probably hypoxia or a jubilee from mobile bay

If its hundreds of fish then its probably red tide. Pretty normal for July here in Florida

Worst smell I have ever experienced was half a box of pogies forgotten in the bait box for a couple weeks. I'm pretty sure now that smells can't make me vomit.
