While technically true, he rose to fame as a German. His accomplishments for the most part occurred in Germany before the war forced him to flee.

she was a civilian teacher who took the risk to do something great... not a military aviator... and died b/c the government fricked up
let's give the Challenger crew a little respect through McAuliffe
BTW... did you know that Challenger had to "abort to orbit" just months before she blew up?
the center main engine cut off unexpectedly during insertion into orbit during a July 1985 launch and the shuttle had to "abort to orbit"... meaning it got into low Earth orbit but didn't reach its intended orbit spot
obviously that had nothing to do with the disaster that claimed that crew... and Challenger flew without issue for 7 days in late October-early November 1985... between the ATO mission and the disastrous mission

On Gemini VIII a thruster malfunctioned and nearly caused Armstrong and Gene Cernan to tumble wildly either into space or into the Earth's atmosphere
Fortunately Armstrong was able to jettison the Agena vehicle they had done a rendezvous with and stabilize the vehicle for an emergency landing

My dad was doing contract work at Marshall in Huntsville the week the Challenger exploded. I was 15 and remember him coming home and saying one of the engineers he had befriended over about a year told him that he thought it was 99% to do with the O-Rings. The guy did a rough sketch on a piece of paper to try to show dad what he was talking about. Dad said that whole place got put on lockdown within the hour of the incident and all outside contractors were removed from the premises. He still regrets not keeping that sketch because it was a while before the o-ring issue was determined to be the main cause of the disaster. Would have been a cool keepsake.

Cancel culture nothing. You need to educate yourself about Charles. Plenty has been written about his Nazi sympathies. He destroyed his reputation with his antisemitism and his favorable opinion of Hitler and Germany. Even the Smithsonian channel highlights this and calls him a Nazi sympathizer.
