Gov. Greg Abbott acknowledged Monday there are some alarming coronavirus trends in Texas over the last week and the virus "must be corralled."

"COVID-19 is spreading at an unacceptable rate in Texas," the governor said.

Texas reported its largest daily increase in COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began on Saturday. When comparing the numbers in late May to the last five days, they've doubled across the board.

Cases are up from about 1,500 a day to more than 3,500. Hospitalizations have jumped from about 1,600 a day to more than 3,200. The percentage of people testing positive is up to 9 percent, compared to 4.5 percent in late May.

"If that spike continues, further action will be necessary," he said.

Ok, now what about hospitalization, recovery and fatality rates?

Here's a list of states with per capita fatality rates. Texas is down at the bottom. LINK

This is total hospitalizations. Not a new daily number. The state still has over 12,000 available hospital beds.

What is the death rate trend?

What is the amount of time in hospitals?

How many are asymptomatic as compared to symptomatic?

How many in the ICU?

What is the age trend?

Mainly focusing on testing statistics is fear mongering imo. We should only be worried about hospital cases and the strain put on the hospital system.

Yeah, the toothpaste is not going back in the tube. At least not without some serious unrest that makes the BLM BS look like a mensa meeting.

It's always the next question that doesn't get asked much less answered. Are these positive antibody tests or are these people really sick? Ask the damn question to bring clarity. With all these spikes the hospitals should be bursting at the seams. BUT they're not, instead they are hurting financially as all the elective surgeries aren't happening.

There are not 3200 COVID hospitalizations a day in Texas. And the number they are using is "the number of people in Texas who are infected with COVID-19 who are hospitalized" which can include people in the hospital for anything that also happen to have COVID. Hospitalizations were down across the board while the state was locked down, which makes sense. Texas still had over 14000 available hospital beds as of yesterday.

He’s right, so I’m not sure what some of the morons on here are whining about.

Cases are going up because people are being selfish and lazy. They could wear a mask but ‘Murrica!’

The saddest part is that they act pious and as if liberals are the ones being awful. Hint, you’re both awful.

Taking precautions and social distancing within reason is not violating rights. It’s being a good fellow citizen.
