I live in Baton Rouge, outside of city limits but close to a neighborhood, we have 4 acres. We've recently seen a couple of wild pigs, can I legally shoot them? I know I'm not supposed to fire a gun but does getting rid of pests allow me to shoot?

Depending on your neighbor's, you will probably get a sheriff deputy coming to your house.

quote:

Sec. 13:93. - Discharge of firearms.
(a)Shooting of firearms within the city. It shall be unlawful to shoot or discharge a gun, pistol, revolver, rifle or other firearm within the city except in a regularly established rifle or pistol range built and operated under the proper safety precautions. The prohibition of this section shall not apply to members of the federal, state or municipal government authorized to carry such firearms, when acting within the scope of their authority.(b)Discharge of firearms in the parish; definitions; exceptions.(1)The discharge of any type pistol or rifle for any purpose by any person within one-half mile of any street, road or house in the parish is hereby prohibited.(2)The discharge of other types of firearms, including shotguns of any description which may be used for the explosion of cartridges or air gun, BB gun, gas-operated gun or spring gun, for any purpose by any person within five hundred (500) feet of any street, road or house in the parish is hereby prohibited.(3)The provisions of this subsection shall not be construed so as to prohibit any person from discharging a firearm in the defense of his person, family or property.

So, can I rightfully claim to be protecting my property by shooting a hog? I know the sheriff will likely show up, but will my explanation work?

If shooting a gun is against the law in your neighborhood or close to others homes then you may get a fine. I will say that I wouldn't want a cop showing up at my house because there was a report of shots fired.

300 blk sub out of a suppressed AR.

Your neighbors could be playing croquet in the backyard and no one would hear a thing.

Yeah, giving the pigs a year while I wait on a suppressor doesn't sound like a good strategy :D

Just remember , one shot when not expected is very hard to identify exactly where it was coming from, the second shot gives you away

In the Parish, rifles and pistols can be discharged as long as you are 1/2 mile from the nearest house. If yoj are closer, it depends on your neighbors. My dad lives on 2 acres and a cop lives 2 houses down closer than 1/2 mile. None of his neighbors including the cop care when we shoot skeet or pistols in the backyard.

Just invite the SOT that'll be handling the transfer over for a hog hunt. He can bring the suppressor with him while it's still in jail.

How many are you talking about?

Consider building a quick and basic pen to catch them. Or as said invite a friend over that has a suppressor.

Go to your neighbors. Tell them what gives and as long as they are remotely reasonable you will be fine. If they aren’t, get a crossbow and do it.
