Does anyone else agree that we would have been better off signing the red rocket over Winston? I realize that there is no way the Saints could have known he would be cut, but damn the luck.

Dalton is decidedly not the future.

Winston is possibly the future.

Easy decision.

pretty difficult to statistically back this up once you get past the "MUH 5k yard PASSER".

Not being racist. Dalton is better. Winston is a child.

Nope... I think Dalton is a solid option if you are looking for a veteran backup that can win you some games. Probably closer to the Teddy Bridgewater mold.

Winston is a guy that can potentially start for the next 10 years if he fixes some things. Much higher upside.

Yes, I think Dalton would’ve been better and I think he can thrive in the right circumstances, but I don’t think the money was there. I also think the Saints has to jump on the opportunity to grab Winston for cheap and it may pay dividends. There’s a good chance Dalton will be available again next year.

The team around Dalton has declined CONSIDERABLY MORE than Dalton has himself.

I said this in a Dalton thread on the MSB - Winston definitely has more natural ability at the position. As far as work ethic and locker room culture/professionalism go, though - Dalton is next level (and he's been that way for a while).

With offense-minded coaches, talent at all skill positions and vastly superior facilities (no outdoor practices in freezing weather) - I could see a revitalized AD playing 4 years at a high level.

Between a old pro retiring soon and a 26 year old former 1st rnd pick.

Boy that is a tough one.

He would be more expensive

Winston is 25

Winston has a chance to develop into a building block moving forward (best case scenario), Dalton does not.

Winston has superior arm strength, better overall physical tools, and still has potential for Sean to mold him into a capable starter, all for the price of Justin Hardee.

Dalton has a career of mediocrity. We know what he is and what he can be.

We have no idea how good Jameis can be, because he's been coached by a pack of wild animals thus far in his career. Cannot wait to see what Sean and Pete Carmichael can do for him
