Everyone knew he would be cut.

He’s likely going to New England. Miami May also try to sign him.

Age wise, Dalton’s best years or at an end or winding down.

Dalton will want a big contract because it’s likely his last contract.

Winston is better than Dalton. (And I don’t hate Dalton)

Winston was obviously way cheaper.

Winston could be the future of the franchise, Dalton would not be.

Jacksonville not Miami. Miami has no use for him.

Maybe next year, this year he's gonna get what he can because it's too far past FA for him to get a pay day.

No. Winston is better, far more talented, and much younger. And we signed him for barely more than league minimum.

Dalton had a few good years where he had a really good offense around him but he has seemed to dip off since then and has been pretty terrible as of late. At least Winston has upside

Winston is younger, has better upside, costs less.

I would take Dalton over Jameis but I just chose not to say anything because the people on here will destroy anyone’s opinion that isn’t their own. Winston is head and shoulders above Dalton in pure talent but the red rocket has won everywhere he’s ever been. He still won lots of games with a terrible Bengals team behind him. That says something. He’s got that “it” factor that Winston will never have and he’s also got a big time arm that is very underrated. If Drew were to go down for a month and the playoffs were on the line give me Andy over Jameis all day long.

So why did they wait so long to release him?

Did he win in the playoffs and I missed it?

I’m sure they were waiting in a trade offer. But teams knew he would be released to avoid the cap hit and he could be signed as a FA cheaper than his current contract.

Jameis started 2 years in college. Won the national championship and Heisman as a redshirt freshman and made the playoffs the next year. Finished 26-1 as a starter. Seemed to have the “it factor” then.

Not sure where in his college or pro career you could point to Dalton having “it.” But by all means, try to convince me.

He did not. He won games with really talented Bengals teams. The entire wrap on the Marvin Lewis/Dalton era was how they underachieved because they couldn't win a playoff game.

I just think its a dick move if the cap relief would have been the same and they could have released him prior prior to the draft so he could find a job.

Yeah I mean who could have seen them parting ways with a mediocre QB that has an awful cap number after drafting a new franchise QB with the #1 overall pick.

They knew they could get dalton, they went with the better player for probably less money

What if he wins two with Payton and Drew stays at 1? Hypothetically speaking of course.

I like Dalton but he's the exact definition of "meh". I'm pretty sure if you looked the word up his picture would be beside it.

Depends on the situation. I think Dalton is a good qb who would be an excellent option to have backing up Brees. But, I can see how, especially for the money, Payton wants to see if he can save someone with Winston’s age and physical talent.

However, I have no fricking clue how everyone just came to the conclusion that Winston is better than Dalton. Having more pure physical talent doesn’t make one actually better. Dalton has been better in pretty much every way you can possibly be better.

Dalton has a pretty nice winning record with the Bengals and has made the playoffs 4 times. Winston is well below .500 in his career. Winston has a slightly better td%, but Dalton is way lower on int%. Dalton better completion%.

This thread made me feel like I crossed over into some parallel universe where Dalton was a mediocre qb and Winston has lived up to his potential. Very weird.
