That's an odd way of looking at it. Odyssey has more in common with Black Flag, but I wouldn't call either game a "true successor."
That's the way it felt to me visually. Black Flag created a freedom and a wide world that hadn't previously existed (AC III was close with the wilderness setting). Unity and Syndicate returned to that more constrained style, where as Origins vastly expanded on it.
Origins was a whole new ball game in terms of play style and story line.

Origins wore me down. I played it a few months ago and even though I love BIG open world rpgs, this was too big. Too many busy work locations.
I still have a favorable rating but it needed some trimming down. By the end of the line, I was looking at those question marks with the same disdain I had for Skellige water question marks.
Even though I overall enjoyed Origins, I had no interest in Odyssey and zero interest in Valhalla.
Pretty much exactly how I feel.

I've liked the direction the games have gone now, but the title just makes no sense anymore....

No such thing as quiet and stealthy in an EPIC RAID.
Sounds like it's similar to Shadow of Mordor

I’m half way through Odyssey and love it. Had no clue another AC was in the works. Viking themed has me pumped.
Will get this in tandem with the Series X.

I guess I’m the only one that doesn’t care for the ship sailing aspects of the recent Assassins Creed games.
I loved Black Flag, but when it came to sailing instead of just roaming the islands it was a drag to me.

True, but if you want to make a historical action game, its a lot easier to sell AC: Vikings than Vikings.
But I am sure they will work in Loki being a trickster god and the viking respecting that.
There will be some stealth missions.
One of the things I always loved about AC is that they commit to making things that should be climbable actually climbable.
There is noting more annoying that climbing up a rock castle wall but not being able to go up steep hill

You're not the only one, I know plenty that don't like it.
I loved it in Black Flag. I get the complaints with it not really feeling like an AC game, but I loved the naval stuff.

You can only do one or the other. You must buy Ubisoft club rewards to unlock rape AND pillage.

Well this looks awesome!!
I’m a huge fan of AC, still yet to play Odyssey which I guess I’ll have to get around to. Been on Witcher 3 for awhile. I thought Origins was the best entry since Black Flag (personal fave) so looking forward to some more entries with this RPG twist

I don't care for it either. My least favorite "new" aspect in the newer part of the series.
I am excited to see the hidden assassin blade back in action. I've missed that.

I think that is a fair criticism of Black Flag, but at the same time, its a really bad arse pirate game. Honestly the best pirate video game ever made. (not a ton of compitition)

I loved the ship gameplay in Black Flag which is by far my favorite, it’s useless in the other AC games and downright awful in the American Revolution one,

I agree. I love playing it but it's so dense. Every time I get back on I'll play a few nights and just get overwhelmed at the map and mission log.
Reminds me of that first large map area you hit in Dragon Age: Inquisition. If you're a completionist, it is a rough go.

So, we'll very much be getting away from the Assassins part of all this, which i'm fine with. It is becoming more of an RPG/badass fighting game set in the world of assassins' creed.
I'm not sure why they continue to try and shoehorn these games into the AC universe. That ship has sailed. Just make them standalone RPG/badass fighting games. I really don't think the few cut scenes tying it to AC are really adding anything.

Looks good as hell. Never finished Odyssey or Origins but hell let's buy another.
