The hospitals are complete ghost towns right now and I can’t imagine they aren’t hemorrhaging cash with no customers.

I keep seeing hospitals all over the country laying off hundreds but we haven’t seen that in Louisiana yet. I have to imagine those layoffs are coming soon.

they are happening in spurts already

part timers or PRNs are being told they are either going into the labor pool or not needed at all

full timers are being kept on a seniority based status at the moment, as there are still folks coming in that need their physical therapy

at least that's what is happening at houston methodist

you'd be surprised at how many doctors, nurses, and other hospital workers have been furloughed bc of all this. a lot of private practice physicians have laid off entire staffs and closed the doors. this is happening in greenville, sc.

How come we can't use those laid-off local hospital workers to help conduct universal testing on all citizens? Oh wait a minute. We still don't have enough testing kits or PPE for healthcare personnel. Never mind.

Wouldn’t it be nice if health care orgs were like this all of the time because we do a better job keeping people healthy? Maybe hospitals could take contractual risk and not be paid each time they treat patients.

This is patently false. We also have plenty of vents. The two hospitals I'm on staff at are seeing numbers dropping of both pts on vents and covid pts in general.

They are already setting narrative for a bailout.

Many (NOT ALL) think they are special, better than us in manufacturing.

This one?

Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital announced it will be closing in a press release earlier this week.

Officials wrote in a press release that for the past year, the hospital has been trying to troubleshoot options to keep doors open, but that ultimately they were “not enough to effectively operate in an environment that has multiple acute care facilities competing for the same patients, providers and services.” The hospital is located about a half hour from Huntington in Ashland, Kentucky. Other local facilities include Marshall Health and King’s Daughters Medical Center
