frick, why not at this point? We keep bailing out wall street and corporations, why not actual people for once?

While I don't agree with it either, it clearly illustrates how screwed up this country's thinking is and just how much propaganda has been fed us.

This is the disgusting entitlement I was talking about. Free free free, nothing is free someone is paying. Can't afford it don't go, College is generally useless waste of time anyway.

I'm supposed to be responsible for a loan that you agreed to?

Most people don't want to pay the $100k note for a Language Arts Major to go work as a Barrista at Starbucks.

Just an FYI im only 28 and i think it is stupid. Why should the working people pay for a student loan that you agreed to when 50% (If not more) of the time individuals dont even pursue what they studied in, nor do we want to pay student loan forgiveness for drop outs. You signed up for it you pay for it. Quit wanting your free handout

In fairness, something like 90% of student loans are held by the federal government. Forgiving them technically costs nothing. It's just a book wiping.

Student loan debt exceeds $1.5 trillion. Wiping that out would reduce a large source of income from the feds. That would have to be picked up somewhere. You figure out where.

It is not simple book wiping.

You want other people to pay for your poor choices and then have the nerve to ask how it affects them?

People that take out loans for schools with $40k/year tuition are foolish.

Im 32. Coming out of college my wife and i combined had about 80K in loans to our names.

Now we are down to $31K. And guess what. i dont want them forgiven. They are ours not everyone elses. Weve worked hard to get rid of what we have gotten rid of so far and will keep at it.

Why should i expect others to pay for loans for me that i used to be a dumb 18-4 year old?

Just tell the fed to fire the money printer up again and print 1.5 trillion. Bam, done. Seems to be how they handle every other problem.

Let's turn it around: starting the year after you graduated, all students will be given 100% student load forgiveness, but you have to pay back every cent of yours.

Now you see why people are against it. You're lying if you say you'd be ok with that scenario.

The better question is why education is so damn expensive now, not whether we should forgive student loans.

I'll give you an answer: tuition prices today do not reflect what it costs to educate a student. Universities have become absolute money pits.

Hell, why stop there. Let’s forgive all mortgages and credit cards while we’re at it. Car loans? Payday Loans? Personal Loans? Why the hell not?

It technically costs nothing, but to act like it will have no financial effect is naive. Taxpayers will pay for it one way or another.

I didn't say it would have no financial effect. I'm simply pointing out that it's not actually a balance that needs to be paid off.

Since this is the second thread you have been thrashing education, why don't you tell us what you do for a living since all education is a scam according to you.

Tell you what Kiddo, I'm going to go buy a new Porsche this afternoon and send you the bill, just because I don't feel like I need to pay the loan back for it.

Sound about right.

Yea. I'm not even really on board with SL forgiveness but the money printer is going brrrr right now and none of those congress creatures or trump is going to lose reelection because they just authorized a 2 trillion dollar bailout.

The fed basically flat out said we'll just print more money every time the stock market goes down.
